Down jackets

Down jackets have their their place but I have never needed one - and don't like the bulk.
They aren't all bulky....and they squash up far smaller than a synthetic fill jacket of similar capability.

They look bulky in the photos posted on here - hmmmm.. maybe it's the wearer :D

I might need one if I visit my friend in Canada he is currently down at -16C

So basically …….

They’re Thin….

They’re Bulky

They’re warm….

They’re not that warm

They’re expensive ….

They’re good value

They’re fantastic……

They’re shite.

Got that thanks

Just worked out my Mountain Equipment down jacket is 28 years old, and still going strong (only one bit of duct tape...)

a good down jacket will compress well, so light and feel great on, you wont regret it

Ah, however there are plenty of decent jackets that will keep you warm, dry and comfy .................that are not £1500 though

One is just paying for the badge exclusivity of a Canada Goose, in the Doncaster shopping mall :D
Similar to paying that sort of money for a Rukka jacket I suppose?

I know the op jumps around near the Arctic Circle, but my Canada Goose parka has served me well. It’s over 10 years old and still going strong. I seldom need anymore than a t shirt underneath for anything the UK throws at me. Think I paid over £600 for the fucker, but don’t grudge cause it’s lasted well. 👍👍

I bought it before they were fortunes and still in EU. I tried on in Flannels and bought from Alpinetrek online. Wasn’t that much and it’s lasted for ages. Keeps you dry too.
I’m sure Jane would buy you one of their great gilets - if you asked her nicely?! lol

Conclusion:
Unless you are headed to Greenland, they are just another fashion item to give you a shot of dopamine.

So what you’re saying is I had no need of my down jacket at -14°C ? Stick to your office work eh?

I’ve ordered a new ME Kryos so of it meets expectations I’m going to have to sell one, most likely the ME Lightline, good jacket but the new one sounds better at extremes

I’ll be happy if my new fashion item is comfy at -30
