Down Wicklow Way - IT Great Irish Drives

Nice piece of History there Bin...few weeks ago i spent a weekend camping on the bike down that way, Stayed in Redcross toured around the Wicklow Hills, some stunning scenery alright...nice Guinness too!

There is a book called The Military Road which describes the construction in detail as well the route and the people, very interesting.

HOW OLD?

I remember staying at Aughavannagh; the kitchen power was Primus stoves, you woke to the aura of rashers sizzlin' in pans

Was over that way today with an English visitor. Rode it from Sally Gap, through Laragh & on past Glenmalure. Brilliant day for it - the weather was so good I thought the Weather Witch was stalking me :eek Heaps of sports bikes in Laragh but feck all of them on the bumpy back roads :D Met Essjay & Buttsoirl in Glenmalure :thumb2

JR,
Did we flash past this on FD4?
Bin

At one of the most attractive points on the road is the memorial to Shay Elliott, the racing cyclist who did so much to put Ireland on the international cycling map.

Bin

No, we didn't go up the Military Road that far, stayed on the main road from Laragh to Rathdrum.
The one you're thinking of was on the south side of Glencree valley, shortly before you join the Kilkee to Sally Gap road (R115) & we passed it on the Mini Dash ;)
