does anyone know how I can download some of the videos off putfile.com? there is some hilarious stuff on there which I'd like to put on a dvd.

i just google for the filename which can usually be found in the text or properties somewhere.

there's usually someone hosting the same file with it downloadable.

You can download them directly from the site but it takes a bit of messing around.

In IE open the page, e.g. coats. Stop the video. Go to the View menu and pick Source. It's not an exact science from here but basically what you're looking for is the video filename - this could be something.wmv as on this page - it's http :// x200. putfile. com/ videos/ a4-12315415212.wmv (deep linking probably isn't permitted so for this post I've broken the filename up with spaces to avoid getting ukgser into trouble, but when doing this yourself you shouldn't do that.)

Copy that filename onto the clipboard (Edit Copy or Ctrl-C), then go back to IE and paste it into the address bar. IE should then prompt if you want to Open, Save or Cancel. If you click Save, you'll get the Save File dialog box - decide where to save it, give it a sensible name, then click Save.

So now I have a 10MB file on my hard drive called coats.wmv that I can watch offline, write to DVD or whatever.

Top MAn - you can come again. NOw as you answered that one so effectively maybe you can help me with this query. I go to Dumpalink alot and you can download the foiles there freely. There is one file of a guy dancing unaware the camera is on him but when I download this file the video is frozen but the audio is there.....any help>

Here is link by the way

He's some over, however he keeps looking round to see if anyones watching and misses the old dear at the counter.

sounds like you are missing a codec.

google for k-lite codec pack.

if it's in WMP, file>save as works doesn't it? unless it's embedded in a web page.

or

right click the link & choose "save target as". this doesn't work if link just goes to a web page.

Right Click " Save target as" doesn't work. It must go to a web page.

show us what you want to save (if you dare :D ) & i'll have a go.

Piggers: no simple answer; I'd have to see it to be able to figure it out. It depends on what is being streamed and the method used for streaming. For some reason some web authors only want you to be able to view something through their web page, streamed, without you being able to download/save it, and to some extent the codec writers allow for that. Some are easy to workaround so that you can download anyway, some aren't. In the end it might be easier to contact the site authors an explain why downloading is better than streaming (even though it's amazingly obvious to anyone with half a brain) and request a download facility, or as cookie suggested searching for other web sites that allow for downloading of the same videos.

password protected? [tap nose]say no more[/tap nose] :D

you can copy it directly off the monitor with a program like SnagIt but the quality will suffer a bit.

a brilliant little program for lots of screen grabbing jobs. i've still not understood the seemingly random appearance of the cursor in captures though  so if anyone knows the answer to that one......
