DPF on RAV 4 2.2 diesel. What are peoples thoughts on cleaning the CAT ?? Is there somewhere around Belfast that anyone would recommend that might be able to do a home visit. Any suggestions or recommendations please.

Is it for preventative maintenance or is it blocked?
If preventative you can get foaming aerosols which you insert into the pressure sensor pipes with a "spray wand" and it will clean alot out. If its blocked ,be sure to find out why it blocked

Not my jeep, engine not getting hot enough in slow moving traffic is my thoughts. What else might be wrong???

I take it you Don't know much about cars, take it to someone who does...

Give it a good thrash, that's what they recommend on the Saab forums for diesels.

Often referred to as an 'Italian tune-up', stick it in second and go for a blast up your nearest A road.

a) Don't use supermarket diesel in it. BP Ultimate or the Shell or Esso equivalents will help.
b) Don't just use it for short trips. You need to do 20+ miles at c. 2000 rpm at least once a week.
c) Chuck a bottle of this in it every three or four months.
d) Prior to all that you might want to have it Carbon Cleaned.

I have sent the info to brother. I have suggested the long run but that seems to be too much bother . So he can pay for it all . Thank you all

You can sit in your drive / Carpark and hold the revs at (?) 4k for half an hour... Steve at Dunlop autos will tell you what you need to do to reset / clean it

Find your local DPF DOCTOR franchise, I know the lad who set up the company and have seen the process carried out on numerous occasions.
It usually has a 100% success rate

Nowt wrong with supermarket fuel
It’s a myth
Been using it in my diesels since 1995
Short journeys kill DPF

Carbon builds up below 350c and burns off above it. Diesels thrive on load, low load chokes them up.

I use a shot Forte or Archoil diesel treatment now and then to keep mine clean, plus towing a caravan helps raise cylinder pressures and burn it off.

As you live in NI and are the worst drivers in the world, (I know this as I’m an exile from there and visit the family regularly in Belfast) and have driven / ridden all over many foreign countries), it’s even worse there than in India.

So if you are the typical NI driver the car will have been driven at 40 mph regardless of speed limit, be it 20mph or 70mph be it sunny or snowing. Possibly may never even have been on a motorway and for sure the indicators will never have been used so will have seized at the stalk.

Back to your issue, NI driving style and stop start congestion in and around Belfast will no doubt have contributed to the problem so give it an “Italian Tune” ie give it a good thrashing through the the rev range and a decent run, NI is small and most journeys are short, a good blow out may help clear it out a bit. Dare to go above 40mph😮now and again but stop doing it in 20 / 30 limits, although you have dual carriageways with 40mph limits it’s mad🤷‍♂️

Short trips kill DPFs
Low engine temperatures too cos they prevent regeneration - check your coolant temp and change thermostat based on findings

Too much sulphur and not enough detergents. I'm sure you'd see fewer DPF regenerations if you used the good stuff. Yes, I know, you're from Yorkshire.... :augie

I don't know what it's like over in Blitey but I know for a fact that most of the fuel over here comes out of only a few wholesale storage facilities......no matter what forecourt you're pumping ⛽ it on.

That’s true but different brands add different additives to make it their own. Talking to a guy who works for Esso he said that’s the difference between supermarket fuel and theirs, the additives.
He only uses super diesel as it keeps the engine cleaner as well as petrol.
