Apologies if this has been covered before.

I've just got a used DR-Z400E. The bike has 5 or 6 breather tubes hanging down below frame level and I'm concerned about river crossings etc.

I would guess that some or all of these tubes should be re-routed.

But I have no idea what any of them do, or which ones to re-route. Waiting on service manual to turn up.

Tips greatly appreciated....

Thx.

Red transparent tubes are balance pipes, required to make the levels/ventury work in the carb. Two of these can be cut back shorter and joined back to each other on the airbox side of the carb in a 'U' shape, the two upper tubes can then be fed around the top of the frame and along the top of the airbox at either side of the bike. Put your crankcase breather hose alongside the left hand side too.
The black overflow pipe can be left dangling down, along with the pumper diaphragm breather pipe whick is red transparent too.
Both my DRZs have worked well in deep water after this mod.

Timpo.

Ah, I wondered why mine kept cutting out after a crossing.

I'll have to look into this! :thumb2

OK Timpo,

I assume 1 & 2 are the tubes to cut back & join back to each other on the airbox side of the carb in a 'U' shape?
When you say 'u' shape, is the opening is still at the bottom? (or would that be an n shape?)

Do you have a photo of your set-up?

:)

wouldn't mind seeing the finished job too, need to do it to my bike as well. Kept thinking i was just running out of petrol for a while till i saw all the pipes hanging down
