First of all I'm no stranger to the GS. I've had four!! The last one took me to the Iran border and back.

But WHY am I looking at the K1200LT?? Is it because Im getting older - pushing 50!
Is it because I want a change?
Will somebody please put me off buying one!!

Ta

Hi Adam
thanks for the reply. I'm guessing the forum thinks these bikes arnt bad judging by the lack of responses :)
has anyone owned both of these bikes who may be able to offer some subjective advice?
Cheers

Just a GS with more power, some plastic to hide behind and a comfier seat innit. ;)

I've just bought a GS as I thought 54 was too old for an S1000RR...it's the knees you know, despite glucosamine, cod liver oil and other vile concoctions that allegedly keep your joints bendable.

LT's have too much plastic by the way (IMHO)

Almost as big as and heavy as a Gold Wing.

Next year it will have a 1.6L straight 6 engine...

Yes, for me its the daddy of touring, especially if all your touring is on the road, yes yes yes everytime over the gs.

Like I said, too much plastic. Bolt two together and call it a car.

K1200LT and that ilk are born again playing at biking rides for middle aged execs dreaming that they are easy riders :D
Pushing 50 and giving into a 2 wheeled Parker Knoll with motor drive:eek:
OK if you want to ride in slippers and smoking jacket. If you want to kick and scream a bit as you get older you don't buy a sh 1 te camp boulevard cruiser. You've just gotta decide on being a man or a mouse and the K1200LT is a mice bike:eek
I'm 56 going on 57 and just gearing up to go wild and get a GSA.
Well there is life in this old dog I'm not gonna roll over and do nice n easy, my dad died 3 years ago after battling Parkinsons for nearly 20 years and my mother died this year after 34 years with MS.
As bikers they'd have given their back teeth to have got on a GS and lived life rather than schmooze along.

I remember before my late dad retired that a secretary at his Bristol Depot asked if she could get away early on the Friday as she was taking her dads belongings to Cornwall for him. The old man spent half the year with her family in the Bristol area and half with one of her siblings in Cornwall.
My dad assumed that she was taking her dad to Cornwall as she was past retiring age and had been asked to work on for a couple of years as the depot was closing.
"Oh no, he rides to Cornwall on his Suzuki motor bike, we just take his stuff down in the car" my Dad was a little surprised. "MOTOR BIKE, how old is he"
The ladies dad was 95 or 96 and still riding full blown Suzuki bike, he'd been pulled by Bristol bike cop the week before for out dragging him off the lights.
When the Copper realsied he was not a youngster he gave him a ticking off and also told him to get his license in order and corrected as his DOB year started with 18 :thumb

The true story has been my biking inspiration for nearly 25 years.
Why would you want to go 'soft rider' approaching 50 when you should have another 45+ years of biking adventure ahead of you :thumb2

If want 100mph touring in comfort with 50+mpg, and you don't mind lots of palstic, try one of these...

what the hell are you talking about, so you want a 1200gsa do you? and think its a better bike to ride than the K1200LT?

born again biker? they are the ones who watch tv and go out and buy whatever is the latest fad, usually a 1200gsa.

thats why you see so many for sale that are less than a year old, with a couple of thousand miles on, and 3 previous owners

get real

It means nothing to me, I was born long after the war ended. ;)

It's a Bond 875 with a Hillman Imp 875 ohc engine from the sixties. It was very fast as it had a stupid power to weight ratio. However, it's about six times a dangerous as a bike....

I hasten to add it belonged to my brother.:rob

Elenvensies. Did I say that the 1200 was a better bike than the K1200LT?
It's what you do with the bike and where you go on it!

K1300s was my choice, but it will not take me where I want to go. Biking in Europe, most roads and cities are pretty similar. If you want to live and really ride out you need something that has more of an all round capablity.
