hi all took a set of ally panniers along to motorad bishopbrigs yesterday to have the locks coded to my key was told  that as i dont have the original key they could not get the barrels out and therefore they would have to be drilled out and new ones purchased if it has to be then it must be done but i thought it would be worth checking here first (not that i doubt the word of the wee girl telling me this :augie ) to see if anyone has successfully re coded these locks without going to these measures and expense cheers gordon

Same dealer did it for me while I waited.
Bought the panniers from Forry and we met at M C n swapped the rails while they coded the locks to my key. So both keys were there.
We drank their coffee and they coded the locks FOC :thumb2
Think the lassie is right.

As a locksmith these locks are fairly simple to pick, shame I don't live closer.

I can recomend www.saslocksmith.com, Davy Shimmons is a good mate of mine, He's in Sterling and I'm absolutely certain he'd be able to get your
locks open and recoded.

Just tell him Sid sent you and he may even do you a special!

Hope this helps!

I bought a pair of panniers for my 1100S a couple of years back - got them cheap because they didn't have keys. I took them to my local dealer (SBW in Hertford) and they gave me a big box of random keys they keep. I sat there for 10 minutes trying one key after another until I found one that fitted - used it to remove the barrels, gave it back and then went and re-coded to my ignition key at home as normal. The locks are really not that secure so if your local dealer has a load of keys, ask to try them - chances are one will fit or 'almost' fit' which is enough......

I lost the keys to my system panniers a few years ago and had the panniers locked to the bike at the time:( As mentioned above, the locks are fairly easy to pick – I used a hair clip and toothpick and had both panniers opened and off the bike in less than 10 minutes. Watch makers screw drivers should also do the job. Worth a shot before drilling out
