I bought the RG Racing protector. Should be easy...

But I can't get the blinkin plastic cover out that the bike ships with.

Instructions say "Remove push in plastic cover"

Tried pliers gripping the little bumps, which just destroyed them and make it look crap... trying to wedge it out with a sharp is scratching the metal, so gave that up. Grrrr.

Is there a trick to it - or should I just cut it out with a stanley?

Thanks, J.

knock it out from behind.

BUT be aware that the design of the RG drive protector is shite.. It relies on the wedge being pulled into the split plastic tube to keep it in place.

Grease the thread of the bolt with copperslip etc because when you want to remove it the wedge and bolt would have corroded together, then you have to butcher the plastic to get it off again.

Just ask David AKA turraloon, he had to do exactly the same when he took it off his bike, then sold it to me on here and afterwards claimed it was his "mate" that had removed it and put it up for sale :tosser:loopy

Thanks Rob

Do you know if the TT one is better designed?

As I've not fitted the RG one I may just sell it on...

I've got the Touratech and they even give you two stickers to cover the allen bolt.....One red Streetline one and a yelloy offroad one...I like the red one because it matches my GSA30 seat:cool:

To remove the 'pushin' cover I carefully slid in one of those very fine but sharp precision electricans screwdrivers along with a good bit of GT85 and carefully worked it back and forward trying not to scratch the paint and the wee round cover just popped out.......!

Touratech say to check the tightness of their crash bung after some miles so I didn't put the sticker over the allen bolt untill then.

I don't know if it works worth a flying fart in a crash or not but it looks good and as it's from Touratech it must must be good!:augie

nothing wrong with the RG ones they are all the same, what FPalmer said is best way to remove the existing cover, cant push the fecker out from inside

If you're not bothered about saving the existing plastic cover, then the easiest way to remove it without any risk of damaging the paint finish on the final drive, is to make a small hole in the middle of it with a knife and then screw a corkscrew into it and pull it off. All of this can be accomplished with the one implement if you own a Swiss Army Knife or a multitool.

Excellent Schtum......I thought the same after i'd spent about half an hour working out how to remove the little fekker.....I didn't want to muller the plastic one incase I needed it again(if the new one fell out):blast

FP.

Slide a 3 thou feeler gauge in to protect the paint then use a knife blade between the feeler gauge and the bung.:)

@Schtum

This sounds good - but I'll try Robs poke it out from the other side first...

Glad I'm not the only one with problems with it though, had the feeling it was going to easy and I'd feel a twat.

let us know how you get on:D

So there is no way of pushing it out from the other side as far as I can see - but the corkscrew worked a treat :)

The TT one is a far better design than the RG one, that is for sure!!
