hi folks does any one you knowledgable chaps here know if you can drive a minibus in the south on a uk licence legally? or is there anyone know who you would contact? seems to be a very grey area, have searched t'internet but to no avail.

Not an expert but if you have the relevant UK licence there shuld be no issue.
It could get complicated if the licence classifications don't harmonise.
There will be lots of UK coaches in Killarney for the summer season driven by people who don't have "Paddy" accents - can't see why it is different for minibuses.

Just reading between the lines here , and with the knowledge that an
assumption is a dangerous thing !..
If your asking , if you hold a Valid D1 or greater can you drive a large PCV in Rep
of Irl , then as the Rep is part of the European conspiracy then , yes.
If your asking can you drive a mini bus on a N.Ire community transport
permit , used under section 10B n.i. {small minibus permits } . No
This exemption for “voluntary drivers” is known as a derogation from the requirements of the EC directive and applies in the UK only.
if the Vehicle is classed as a LPCV , 10+ or more seats ,it also comes under Operator Licensing in another member state { other than UK}
with the Added bonus of insurance ,Tachographs , driver CPC , .. Now , this i cant tell you , if you were to hire a driver using a vehicle
operated with a section 10B permit {to operate }, is the Permit valid ?. Theres an interesting question !!! . Which i will have an answer to later today.
The Hire and reward , saga , has pretty much been tried here ,

"Another " place then there is an Assumed Added Value in transporting
those people to that place.. ! ..

Car (b) = up to 8 passengers d1 up to 16 passengers d over 16 passengers cpc is a must except for very limited circumstances. There are lots of other rules also to do with the bus. JJH
Thanks its to operate a school owned minbus to go hillwalking etc in the south (Donegal specifically), teachers driving and kids in a 16 seater transit. Insurance company says its covered just querying about the licence have D/D1 on NI Licence. Seem strange the republic would be different or difficult!! the hire or reward has always been a grey area with education, school sport would suffer immensely if this was the case.

I hired a mini bus in the UK every year from 1997-2005.
It was for a group of us to go golfing in Southern Ireland,the hire company knew where we where going, and we never had any problems comeing off the ferry.
