Dropped 2010 GS off Sidestand

Cant believe I done this 1st time ever in my life didn't put sidestand down properly on 2 day old bike what a Nob. Grazed valve cover quite superficial but now dont know if it will corrode as may just cover with valve cover protector any advice greatly appreciated.

Bad luck fella....but it can happen to us all..and luckily it sounds like minimal damage.

I personally wouldn't worry about corrosion...

....I'd get straight down the BMW dealers and get a new engine guard..no matter how much it costs...

....and pretend it never happened.

Well now you have that first scratch, you can start treating it as a proper vehicle and not something that is pampered and preened to within an inch of its life.

Just bite the bullet and get it fixed. It'll bug the hell out of you otherwise.

Nothing wrong with a bike that has the "used" look but two days old is just too soon

£64 plus the vat for a new protector and now you'd never know.

I'm checking that the stands down a bit more carefully now!

Been there - done that

1 week old GSA, which I left idling on my not-level gravel driveway whilst I closed a farm gate.

Watched it slowly topple off its side-stand helplessly from 10 m away. Grrrr.

Same sort of damage. I have not bothered to fix it as I figure it'll get dropped a lot more in the next few years.

I'm still anticipating - and dreading - my first "oopsie" moment. My new GSA should be ready for delivery this week.

That's the worst part about getting a new vehicle, especially a bike!

That was a major factor in my decision to get a GSA over one of the new Multistradas.

To me, the BEEMER starts out so ugly that a few dings and scratches don't make much difference!

Yeah, if I just keep thinking that, maybe I'll actually start to believe it...

6 weeks from new - I thought I was parked up ok, sidestand down, but on a bit of a slope.
Was talking my foreman near the bike and heard a dull thump - felt a right twat.

Left valve cover was grazed (crash bars - BMW ones didnt help much), rear vario box scuffed.

The right hand mirror snapped for some reason, so the 150 mile journey home was difficult.

I replaced the mirror, will get valve cover done on the next service, not sure if the guards you can fit would have helped any.

I took it as a joke myself in the end although I cringed for a couple of weeks after, but the showroom status ended that day and let me throw the wrapping paper away.

I'd say leave it a couple of weeks and see how you feel.

What's worst case scenario - you replace it anyway?

It would really annoy you if you fixed it and then did it again.

Mines been over (both sides inside a few minutes), and I've never worried about it......

sorry to here that mate , if its any concellation, dropped my 1150 adv on first day, riding across a farmers field, well there supposed to do that are`nt the, and only last saturday pulled in the petrol station , put sidestand down got off while looking at some fit pussy walking across the forecourt,bike fell over wedgeing me against the pump, any way shouted to this bloke at next pump"can you gi me a lift with this mate " replied "soz mate got a bad back" so there we are, but they cant see ye go red in the helmet can they, felt a c**t though,, ha ha ha,

If you decide to replace the rocker cover, what ever you please place a clean container under it to catch any residual oil that may drip out .... that way you tip it back in without having to worry which sort you need to buy..

Sorry to hear that Rob, but covers will make it look better and obviously protect it for the next time

Top tip though if there will be a next time, couple of years ago i dropped my bike (whilst on it aswell!!) into a parked car, sandwiching me between the car and bike.

Bonus here of course is me and the car were quite soft which resulted in no damaged to the bike

Just a 'Jaymi' shaped dent in this blokes car whoops Lol

Happened to me once, I took both covers off, rubbed them down and painted black...sorted and different!
