Dropped a valve on the right hand side - Top end rebuild...

The circlip on the rear hub popped off which moved the wheel out putting the brake disk into the calliper, which destroyed the calliper. I just felt the back start to move so I pulled in.
I felt sick when I saw what happened. It was an 08 mk2 which I bought new, and had a full service history. It was great to ride, but ultimately a shitbox.
Trust me, it wasn't funny at the time.

The splined rear drive flange is supposed to be a tight shrink fit on the splines, it must be heated to expand it when fitting, the circlip is belt and braces. Something must have generated and transferred heat into the drive flange (such as the brake disk) in order for it to come loose.

Glad you managed to save it.

I reckon you can fanny a bike to much and then itsa big deal when it breaks.

My 05 got loads of mileage on it and I abuse the fuck out of it, never wash it, change the oils occasionally and it loves it, when it breaks I can't fix it fast enough so the fun can continue.

Its not unknown for a binding rear brake caliper to cause the hub to overheat.

Reminder to me to check the seals on mine. Its an 08 and all original so corrosion under the seals has to be likely.

Have you thought about fitting an HP2 Sport engine:augie
