So come on then, which are the best crashbars for off road work (and spills)?

One of the problems with crash bars on Airheads can be that in certain crash circumstances they have been known to bend the frame.
I would still fit them though

My problem with them is that "in certain crash circumstances"
they can bend certain parts of the anatomy when entanglement results! I have had very good service from my Stanton Guards which are superb and STRONG ... maybe not as TT poser
but great. ;)

It's all "patina"

Anyone got a right hand plastic thingy, mines busted?

If only our bodies were as pampered and coseted...??

If the crash bars were to bend the frame, what would have happened to the engine if there were no bars ?????

Good leg rests

The best thing about the crash bars is not protecting the engine (although they are good if the bike just falls over) but to rest the legs on straight out in front, on those long ride-outs.

crash bars

how much
what are they called & has any one else used them 7 and views compared with say hb s- reason for interest have just punctured offside rocker cover!

Upper rear missus

Any one heard of a bolt on to protect upper rear cyclinder head where my original 1150 crash bars don`t protect? Something like Mr Big Boys but for the top.

I would say that the best products are these:

http://www.jimmyjib.com/guards.htm

effective and quality (and therefore not cheap).

If not the best solution is probably nothing, the standard adv bars are great as foot rests, but not much else.

The ttech ones look awful in my opinion.

I have H&B bars fitted to my 1100, when err, heermm dropped it in ruts on the Ridgeway recently, it did protect the engine, the rear bracket bent (which I bent back with a large hammer), but the engine was fine, no scratches to it and i could carry on my merry way (though I did loose and indicator and the screen and put a dent in the Tank) how much of this was the pivet effect on the bars i don't know, but I am pretty sure with the damage it did have, it would have been a lot worse without them. just wish i bought the Tank bars that go with them, and that may have saved the Tank,

Although the standard BM engine bars will protect the heads on tarmac - ie slide, they're not good off road - stones bounce around and you can still hole a cover. I'll get some better ones this winter (think Enrie's may be a better solution), in meantime it's Steptoe's (I think) advice of Araldite and cotton wool - just in case !! ;)
