Dropped the GSA and broke a spotlight

During a little 'light' green laning last night I took a fall on my GSA and despite going down fairly heavily the only damage was one of the OEM spotlights. The design seems pretty daft to me and not something I had considered before last night, but they are definitly very easy to break if you drop the bike. So today I started to consider my options to perhaps replace them with something else, but then had a look at a parts diagram and the only bit that was broken was the front supporting ring. A quick call to Bahnstormer and they will have it ready for me tomorrow morning for just 14 quid:thumb2

So, the BMW spotlights are too easy to break and a bad design, but, cheap and easy to repair :cool:

If anyone else has the same issue the part number is as follows:

63127653586 = supporting ring

Thats interesting, its was only available as a complete unit last time I asked. £70 odd:eek:

BTW tape and cable ties worked well:D

Ditto.

I've still got the last one in bits, so if £14 is all it takes then I'll have a spare! :thumb

Thanks for that David, I've copied the list. Handy to keep.

These things are just much too delicate.....if we get a customer bike with any fitted on any of our off-road trips we tend to remove them (with their permission and help obviously :) ) before we set out from Marrakech.

We've even seen them break on both sides in a lay-down......the weight of the upper side one snapped it off even though it didn't hit anything :blast:o

Useful to know the bits are available separately though :thumb2

Totally agree - I had already thought that I will remove them next time I take the bike in the mud, and it is useful to know that they can be repaired or removed using the standard tool kit supplied with the bike.:thumb

Just bought one this week in Kearys Cork, cost €21. Took about a week to get it from the UK. I'm sure any BMer dealer in Dublin can get it just as quick.:thumb2

Yes this is a piece of shite BMW design - I took mine off first thing I got the bike in '06. Replaced them with my hella FF50's off the old 1150 mounted further inboard and will refit the OEM's like new when I sell. I honestly cannot believe that even on the new Adv GS's they still have this stupid setup - all they actually need to do is move them inboard about 10-15mm! i...s enough room??
