hi all, this may seem like a dumbass question?? lol, but I'm looking at buying a 1200 gs, and i noticed they have a "dry clutch", now all the bikes ive had, have had "wet" clutches, so whats the difference, is it like a car clutch, u just cant slip it like a wet clutch???

cheers...........Andy

Moist clutch ??

Wet clutch means just that, it's splashing in oil like the old primary chaincases on brit bikes...
Dry.........no oil

hi mate, yeah i know what a wet clutch is, it sits in a bath of oil, but is a dry clutch more like a car clutch, u cant slip it etc.???:nenau

Its a dry clutch. You won't notice anything different in use, apart from a slight difficulty in engaging first when cold. You can use it just like a wet clutch. It can however start to get a bit smelly if slipping for a long time.

thanx mate:thumb, so its ok to slip it, the same as you would a wet clutch, in slow traffic etc.???

Yep - you don't alter your riding style one bit. Slipping the clutch is essential on the GS around town. Its not a problem.

take it to a quiet car park at just play with it at low speed (i'm still talking Bikes here !)

circles, figure 8's and slalom.

you'll very quickly get the feel of it. :thumb2

i do it with every Bike i get - find it especially useful getting used to the biting point and amount of "slip" i can use.

...and so i dont fall off like a prat on the next Training course i'm doing - i instruct :blast
