Ok so today I carried out a clutch bleed. Probably well overdue as the old fluid was cloudy green when it came out. The new stuff is blue. It has made a small difference but the issue is still there . Next I will try the revised clutch shaft courtesy of Spooky.
I found I was able to do the bleed without removing the starter. Its a bit of a fiddle but can be done with a short 6mm ring spanner as long as you’re highly dexterous and have small hands.
