Dublin oil question:augie

I’m trying to buy 4L of Castrol 20W50 oil around Dublin area. I usually get it from Cotter’s in Ballymount for about half Maddock/Duffy price, but they wont have any for at least 3 weeks. Tried a few other places but no one seems to stock it. Any ideas out there

Thanks.

Oil

Halfords own brand "classic" 20/50 at 16 sterling in Newry yesterday. Castrol GPS as recommended for Beemers 26sterling. A lot better than 45Euro in the robin B'stard on the long mile road. Worth checking their stores in Dublin?

Thanks for that Firefox.

A recent visit to my mechanic and 1 phone call later and I had a can of Castrol 20/50W classic delivered to my mechanic for €27. HArd to beat that price.
Problem is that all I know is that it came from a motor factors in Inchicore who deals in classic stuff.
Can't bo too many MF there so worth a search for that price and top quality in Castrol.

.

opinions are like assholes, everyone got one.

Many years ago, I was advised that, under no circumstances, to use Castrol GTX after it had lead to the destruction on the main bearings in a Kawasaki 900, an engine which was noted as being bullet proof.
I've used Duckhams for the last 30 years without problems, but I do change the oil and filters at regular intervals - I did ride Hondas for a while and can't break the habit. :blagblah:blagblah

probably was the Z1, it was the bike that Eamonn Waldron used to ride in production races during the late '70s. He'd ride the bike to the races, take off the indicators, numberplate and tape up the headlight, race, replace and ride home. He said that the Castrol GTX had broken down completely and came out of the bike like water.

Thanks for all the replies.

Was in Maddocks yesterday. €17.50 for 1 litre of Castrol 20w50:blast:censor::barf:eh:eek::eek::eek:.……..

I’m gonna wait, and hopefully Cotters will get it back in and it’s the price I remember from last year.

Just an update on my original question if anyone’s interested.

My 1200GSA will be out of warranty soon, so I want to start doing as much of its maintenance as possible myself. With this in mind I was trying to source a reasonably priced supply of CASTROL ACT-EVO 4T 20W/50 (I didn’t want to start a “what oil” thread. Just wanted to continue using BMW’s recommended oil for the bike:thumb2)

Anyway as I said above. Price in BMW dealer for 1 litre= €17.50 or €70 for a 4 litre oil change:mad:.

Have just ordered the exact same CASTROL ACT-EVO 4T 20W/50 from thevisorshop.com. 1 litre= £6.50
4 litre= £25. free delivery on orders over £50. I had to buy a few extras to avail of the free delivery but it still works out way cheaper:D.

As an aside. I also got a price for brake pads for GSA from BMW dealer…. €75 a set. So 3 Sets of pads for the bike=€225

Price for sintered pads on EBC Internet site for the GSA= £25 a set or £75 for all 3.

I want to support our local businesses:aidan, but obviously not at these prices:mad:.

My GS is in Maddocks at the moment getting Tourance’s fitted front and back. €275 fitted. Apparently it’s a special offer, it’s still slightly more expensive then other deals I’ve seen and I’m still left with the feeling I’m paying a big BMW premium.
