My 1260 regularly returns 50+mpg over the tank full the worst i have had was low 40s on a mental blast from Invergarry to Eilean Donan

The worst thing is the range indicator which is way off track. It tells me i have 20 miles range which should be about 2 L in the tank and yet when i brim it it only takes 14L in a 20L tank ....

So having said all that the trip computer could be a load of shit and its doing nothing like 50mpg

Perhaps measure it full to full and record the miles between & come back and tell us

On board mpg can be notoriously optimistic

I am never going to let it run out but from experience 200 miles per tank is easy so I think the distance to empty display is pessimistic

I just don’t get why someone would buy GS after GS and continually dismiss every rival as being inferior. The GS may well be the best large adventure bike out there for most people but there are alternatives and they all have their merits.

I guess it’s easier to return to what you know rather than fancying a change......

Exactly this ! I’ve only had 3 GSs , fancied a change so bought a Guzzi Sport . Several years later I wanted to go back to an adventure bike but was unhappy about how much I would have to spend buying a nearly new GS and concerned about reliability. On a whim I bought a mint Crosstourer that popped up for sale on here, no test ride. Love it ! I love the engine , the comfort , the power , the sound , the DCT. It is definitely put together in a typically Honda way and the quality , particularly the plastics , way better than my previous 2011 GS which was something I didn’t expect. Is it a better bike , no , just different and better in some ways which suit me. That’s was almost 6yrs ago and I’ve still got it. Could it be improved? Yes, and I’m just about to Maxton it rather than replace it.

Interestingly since I bought it several mags and articles I’ve read reckon that’s it’s the closest that any one ADV bike has come to matching many of the GS qualities and yet it’s one of the slowest selling, and most underrated, big ADV bikes.

Ride the new GS and new V4 Multi and buy the one you prefer , they are both bloody good bikes. But don’t slag one off because it’s not the bike you want, or maybe not the one you want to be seen on. ;)

How long did it take you to find a review where the GS actually comes out ahead of the Multi V4S ??
And the only one you could find was a German mag that always sucks up to BMW.
Are you sponsored by BMW to constantly spout such utter bollox or have you sustained a head injury in the past ?
BTW, some people actually think the GS sounds like a wet fart, which is probably about right.
BMW have been tweaking and fettling the motor for 40 years and it still makes the least power of nearly all its rivals.
Even the new Harley Pan American makes something like 20bhp more and that’s the first incarnation.
The development of the Boxer engine is coming to an end.You can only polish a turd for so long :-)

Arsey, don't lower yourself to Boxerlust's level.

Boxerlust carefully avoids stating the margin by which the GS won the test. The V4 Multi scored 753/1000 in the recent Motorrad full test - one of the highest scores ever. If the GS beat it, it would only be by a couple marks out of a 1000. Pah!

If the Boxer engine is a turd that's coming to the end of it's life, then someone had better let Porsche know the bad news about the flat-6 engine that they've been polishing for over 50 years. Anyway BMW have been polishing a flat twin of some description for almost a century.

It's just not true that BMW's always win comparison tests in German magazines. True, the newer GS's and the sixes have done, but the older boxers e.g. 1150RT (criticised for being underpowered, rough and without sufficient redeeming features, losing out big time to the FJR1300 and Pan) and the brick K1200GT lost out to the FJR1300. Furthermore the new parallel twins fare well, but I have never read a German test of one being preferred to a Triumph Tiger. In January this year, the 850GS lost out to the Tiger 900 Rally Pro and KTM 890 Adventure. Not by much -but it still came last. There was indeed one memorable test where the mighty GS lost out to a 650 V-Strom on a "round-the-mountain-hairpins" route.
I say the above as a subscriber to Motorrad for over 20 years.

RE: Harley Pan-America, KTM, Multi V4 etc with more BHP. If you set out to make a high-revving, low-geared engine then it's a piece of piss for it to develop more power then the Boxer. Just allow it rev to 10k or more and it will leave the Boxer for dust on the dyno. Perfect for those who just judge a bike by its headline horsepower.

I don't know why Boxerlusr doesn't just fit a fu**ing turbo to his GS. There are plenty that will do it for him.

NOBODY keeps a modern GS out of warranty because they don’t trust it to be reliable.

I must be a nobody then, last 3 years with no warranty, thrashed to death on and off road.

Same for me. Kept my first GS for 14 years. Bought a new triumph explorer. Hated it. Sold it in 8 months later. Gone through 3 GSA's since, but found the perfect one in the end. Now three years old. Out of warranty. Mot in a couple of months. It's a keeper !

I really should try a Crosstourer.
I love my ATAS DCT.It looks great and to me is more than the sum of it’s parts.Ok, it’s only 100bhp or less, and someone like Boxerbullshit will never get it. I doubt he’s even ridden one but he can’t see past a GS and riding flat out every where as though he’s always got something to prove. Very odd.
But now I’ve got the 701LR, I’ll use that for the gentle offroad stuff and the Crosstourer DCT would probably be a better bike for two-up touring than the ATAS.
There’s only a couple over here. One was for sale recently. If it comes up again I might grab it.

Arsey what I like about you is that you are an motorcycle enthusiast like I am...I'm 55 and have ridden a lot and owned a lot of bikes and really don't give a crap what the media says...Because they are all paid whores who either have an agenda or do it for money. And yes I love BMW boxers for the street like I love the S1000RR for the track because they are the best Tools for the job.And if I would not love the boxer so much for reasons of TORQUE,protecting your legs, clean drive shaft and superior on the road to any fork Tele-Lever I would even ride a S1000XR which is a hybrid of my beloved GS and S1000RR...And yes like you know I would love more top-end power on the GS like some other people obviously also want because why would they otherwise buy the 1290 KTM or MS ;) ? For sure not for the better build quality, higher reliabilty, more dealerships/better parts net work, fork or chain :D
And Honda with the Crosstourer like Yamaha with the now defunct Super Tenere or Africa Twin the japanese have lost their plot and don't even make comparable or interesting enough to buy bikes...I mean who could get exciting about a Versys,V-Strom,FJR or VFR or all the boring crap Japaninc. put out nowadays ? O.K. if I was young and a beginner a MT-07 would be a nice starter bike to cut your teeth on but thats about it or if you are of these guys living out of a tent and living of 20 bucks a day trying to see the world on 10 grand bitching about the locals being so stingy while smelling bad and no offer for free showers/couchsurfing...What I try to say these freeloader would probably love the T-7...But that's about it...And that from a guy that had a Honda CBX poster on his wall when he was 12 years old ;)
Arsey you should with me to Baja in october and bring Stick ,too :thumb
Baja GS Moto-Rentals in TJ have a nice 1200 ADV waiting for you...You don't need Marco as a guide as you already know a better one :D And bring your gay friend Gilles , too...4 is always better than 3 so noone feels lonely at night in the Hotel room...;)

Arsey I have a friend who has a 1200 Crosstourer DCT...The only reason he bought is that he is very cheap as the local Honda dealer had 2 and could not give the other one away...Despite getting it brand new for half what a GS would have cost him he hates riding it...Very (top) Heavy !
But You as a proper Honda man will probably love it like you do your A-T...:thumb2
Same with another guy who bought a new A-T 1100 the one with the big tank and tubeless wheels which he loved...He asked me if he could ride my GS.I said yes but if you crash you bought it...When he came back he did not say much.A couple weeks later he said I got a new bike.I said why because you did not seem that impressed by saying not much.He said I had no idea how much easier it was to go faster than I would have dared on my Honda...

Ok, I’ll say this only once....I’M 56, NOT 16.I DON’T ONLY RIDE A BIKE TO GO FLAT OUT EVERYWHERE.I don’t want a bike that is easy to go fast on.I want a bike that brings a smile to my face when I ride it.No modern GS does that....for me.
We are all different. You can’t see past the BMW range.I can. The end. :doris

And Arsey after # 48 # 49 and now # 50 I dedicate one more thread to you to break your misconceptions...Actually german media hates everything german or what is/was good about Germany like they Hate themselves or feel ashamed about what they should be proud of.In fact you go to jail in Germany if you tell the truth as free speech is outlawed in Germany under Paragraph 130 GG...I don't make that up.
Be it about Hitler or BMW in Motorrad or PS...These guys hate BMW's and almost apologize to the stupid massses when a BMW wins again like the Boxer GS and S1000XR,R,RR for obvious reasons does.So if a BMW wins in these magazines they must be good as the guys testing the bikes privately only love Hondas, or Ducatis and Aprilias...There is definitely no national pride involved when a german product wins in a german magazine like in any other country would !
But hey Triumph's are all made in Thailand now and I don't know about any Thai motorcycle mags...:D
Only ladyboys riding japanese scooters going to the factory making british Triumphs 7 days a week working for slave wages...;) Another reason to love globalism :D

Arsey you need to read post 48 and go to Baja with me...Since you are older than me I even let you pick the bed closer to the bathroom...:D
Sounds like you need to get yourself a Harley or Indian and a lot of blue pills to manage your midlife crisis...Maybe even a Corvette since they are DCT only now...;)

Arsey that is a beautiful picture you have posted before :thumb2 But you would have been much happier on a GS than wasting these glorious french roads on a Harley...Like Jesus said , don't throw your pearls to the swine/Hog...:D

That’s where you are totally wrong .
I’ve ridden those roads on everything from a T-Max scooter to a 200bhp bike and the Road King was by far the most enjoyable.
There really is no point discussing this with you as you just cannot see it.

You stick to your soulless GS and I’ll ride a variety of bikes that are all different and enjoyable in different ways .

No need to go fast on those roads. You won't have the time to take in the beauty. Like Arsey, I have been there and a cruiser would be just the thing. It won't even notice the uphill bits. You ever been to go and see the fault line that runs through Vercors. You can see it here from the lookout.

You dont? What the fuck's wrong with you ..... ??? :D

I get it.Everyone is different and buys a bike for different reasons. Some guys like to ride as fast as they can and take it as a sport. Some guys like to enjoy the scenery. Some guys like to be with the missus. Some guys like to be with other guys getting away from the missus. Some guys like to dress up like gay pirates and think they are bad when they ride a certain bike. Some guys like just to buy bikes and order more parts and look at the bike in the garage.Which is all fine with me.I live for the twisties and for that the GS is the best tool. And no Arsey the GS is everything but soulless...I come down the Baja for over 20 years now and have ridden down there with guys on japanese sportbikes or guys on Harleys. And after a few years all these guys have converted to the GS...The guys on Harleys crashed because they ran out of ground clearance in turns the guys on sportbikes were uncomfortable, had they stuff ripped off because they had no hardbags and could not keep up in the twisties...I wouldf like to be able to keep up in the straights...160hp & 17' wheels ;) :D :thumby:
