When I heard that Ducati was launching a Scrambler, it was always likely to have a mid-sized version of their timeless air cooled L-twin, but I was really interested to see what they would do in terms of styling.

I have to say I think it's pretty disappointing, to me it looks really stumpy. This was a great opportunity to do something a bit special and I think they've missed the target.

What do you think?

Yes, have to agree about being disappointed. I can see it selling shed loads on the continent, but don't believe it will be a massive hit here. I am prepared to eat my words tho'. I did see the original bike during my factory/museam tour this year which I did think was a lovely thing and although the new bike does take many styling cues from the original, it just misses the mark IMO.

Yeah I agree - not a fan of the styling at all. Triumph looks a lot better. In fact the Chinese Herald 250 mutt actually looked better at the NEC.

saw them at the NEC. i think the yellow one looks really nice, but the others just didn't work for me.

infinitely more preferable to a bonneville though :)

Absolutely :thumb2 Then again pretty much any bike is preferable to a modern Bonnie.

I preferred the bike in the flesh to pictures I'd seen and a few tweaks by an owner (such as a good looking end can) would make a real difference.
What I couldn't get my head around though were the plastic infill panels used (such as between the V of the engine), they just looked so wrong to me and somehow cheapened the look of the bike for me.

I do reckon though that the bike would be tremendous fun to ride on knurly back roads and the like :)

If they get a popular celebrity involved in the marketing of the bike, I'm sure they'll sell them by the boat load.

Now if they had made it a modern bevel drive single like my 250 from the 70s I would have been seriously tempted, but a 90 degree L-twin, nah.

I honestly wouldn't know where to start....It's a complete pig, as in that awful piggy Triumph RT tourer thing...as ugly a feck......

Are they tiny ? Small as an R9T ? if so I'm out at 6 foot 6 :nenau

More tiny then a tiny thing on tiny's day out....... you would look like a monkey on a tricycle.... makes the R9T look like a GSA.

The trouble is with all these concept ideas that look so great is that by the time the manufacturers have satisfied road regulations by adding reflectors, big mirrors, additional mudguards and extra exhaust heat shields etc the original design is often lost.

However all is not lost because, I know a guy that's in the early stages of building his Ducati Scrambler type special, I've seen the draft designs and it looks to be very splendid indeed! Better still, I've been asked to do there paint job on it! ;)

Bugger ! I'd got myself all Hipstered out:(

Bike Exif are running a story on this beauty - why couldn't the factory turn out somethin more like this?

Had a go on one a couple of weekends ago, but unless your less than 5" tall (Im just under 6' and found the riding position uncomfortable) then its a no-go.

Its got loads of low down torque, and I really wanted to like it, but it needed another 2-3 inches of suspension travel to be of interest. The seat became uncomfortable within about 15 minutes, and I couldnt wait to take it back to the dealers.

RBW.

Chris's work on that tank is stunning, its included elswhere on here and just look plain class.
