Took my 1200GS to Robsom Racing yesterday to fit a new rear tyre. Great people operating a great business. :)

I was on the floor with Mike refitting the rear brake, and a suddenly the pad bit falls to the ground. (As you can tell I'm not a technical person - hense the request for advice)

The backing plate is still in the caliper, but with no pad bit attached. Mike tells me that it's rusted through. There was still a reasonable amount of pad left.

The bike was new last June and I've done 4500 miles.

Now I'd expect the whole pad to last at least the duration of the braking material, not just rot after 9 months. :nenau

Should I complain to the dealer (NOG) or just lump it?

It's a pain as now Mike's had to order pads for me, which will arrive probably on Tuesday, and the whole thing has prevented me from journeying down to Oxford to droole over the GSA this weekend :(

Rear Pads

Take a picture of them, along with a picture of the bike and milage and E:mail a strongly word letter along with the pictures to BMW customer services direct there is no way your pads should be in this condition after such a short period, personally I would be looking to have the price of the replacement pads refunded from BMW.

I wouldn't bother with that....BMW Motorrad dealers have the authority to deal directly with issues like that.....whether they will or not will obviously determine how seriously they take 'customer satisfaction'.

Any correspondence with BMW UK will get bounced straight back to the dealer for action in any event.

Hope this story helps.......

Had the same problem exactly with an 1150GS a few years ago, the only difference being that I was on the country roads at the time and the first I knew of it was a high pitched scream from the rear end as metal touched metal.

The bike was still under warrenty, so I drove to a local BMW dealer and showed them the remains of the pads. They were not interested and I had to buy another set.

I then, however, rode to my supplying dealer (who is about 3 times the distance away) and reported the fault to them, showing the evidence. Rainbow immediately took the bike into the workshop, checked the disc was not damaged, that I had replaced the pads correctly and gave me the choice of refunding the cost of the rear pads I had bought elsewhere (unfortunately minus VAT) or taking a second spare set. That second set are still in my garage awaiting their turn.

I think this story explains why I use Rainbow when there are about 3 other dealers closer!

Hi ya. I use NOG there an excellent dealer.

Get a recipt for the new pads, and phone NOG 01865 319000 and ask to speak to Matthew Tilsley 'Motorcycle Service Manager' explain what happened and I'm sure he will do everything he can to help you.

Your in good hands at NOG, their a first class dealer and allways pleased to see you. :thumb

I'll call NOG tomorrow, and have a chat :)

They've always been great previously, os no reason to expect anything different this time.

Cheers all.
