Dear GSer's

Am changing my tyres after several scarey moments on my Trailwings which are lethal in the wet and have already had me off once under breaking! Was going to fit the Tourance until i read on this site about the dunlop D607 which had only one review as it's a newish tyre - the review raved about them but was wondering if anyone else has fitted them or knows about their performance?

Many thanx

Just had a pair fitted on Saturday at Micheldever - £144 ride in-ride out. I have never had them before - only had Trailwings, and whilst I have only done 120 miles on them, I can't decide whether they feel odd becasue a) they are brand new and different to what I am used to or b) they haven't been fitted/setup correctly.
I am finding them strange going round bends - everything at the front feels very "tight" when i drop in and when I pick the bike up again. Its hard to explain but it does feel very odd. Until i have done more miles I can't decide whether its better or worse than I had.

The pressures are lower than Trailwings - 31 front and 34 rear, as recommended by Dunlop. Maybe mine haven't been balanced properly. It hasn't rained since I had them fitted so can't say what that is like. I am hoping that they will grow on me and that it is simply a case of getting used to things feeling different.

My rear 607 shot at 3800. i would say it was a vg tyre wet an' dry.Bike isGS12 pressF32 R38.

Had them on a 1200gs last year before it went Kaput. Did not realy like them but only did 1200 miles on them before swapping back to an 1150 with Tourances which I prefer.

Dunlop D607

Hi got these on my 1200 GS had no problems with them great tyre wet or dry should get about 4500 out of the rear with general riding not tried them off road though

Got them on my 1150 at the moment - best tyre I've had so far. Smoother and sharper than tourances and better mileage than 020's. Sticking with them for the time being:thumb

My point, too. Would be interesting to compare them with the Pilot Road, which is hard to get at the moment, though.

The guys at Michdever recommended them to me when my Tourances bit the dust.

Suggested that they're a tad harder than 020s, but more grippy than Tourances.

I've done 4k miles wet and dry, chicken strips at rear 1/16" wide, and they grip well.

I do suspect, though, that I'll need a new rear within 1k miles. So it looks like 2 rears to 1 front as a usage ratio.

It would be very unusual for Micheldever to fit tyres wrongly BUT if you have any doubts take the bike back to be checked. They will do this for you without making any fuss. All they want is satisfied customers like me.

My 12 came with them on and they have been excellent.

I normally go through a rear Tourance at about 6k and I reckon these will do the same - I'm at 4k now and they still have life left in them yet.

I've taken then on the Nurburgring - in the wet, hammered around the Dales in all conditions and been off-road a couple of time too (in the snow) and the tyres have excelled themselves.

Sounds like they are cheaper than Tourances and certainly cheaper than 020s.

Stunning tire.
Probably the best there is for road biased work. If you can bear the wear you will not test them to their dynamic limit.
Apropos Anikee; I was quoted £130 for a rear, which makes a pair of 607s @ £144 a bargain!

Cheers Gents!

Cheers gents!

Appreciate the feedback and advice - will definitely go with them now! The cheapest i've been quoted for fitting and all is £176 at the Bike Doctor in Halifax - am based in Holmfirth, West Yorks - anybody got any recomendations on where to try locally that has a good rep and good price?

thanx!

Thanx stoney - have booked it in - £175 - you saved me a pound and a 2 week wait! Strong Work!

Keep it on the back wheel

Exactly the feeling I had after changing to them from Tourances - front feels 'heavier' and reluctant to turn initially, then seems as though it will continue to drop in unless I put some forward pressure on the outside 'bar.

Also had them fitted at Micheldever - not checked the pressures yet though, but I wonder if they've been set at the same as yours this maybe too low? Upping the front to 36 (Tourance) may make the front feel lighter.

Can't complain about the grip though, they seem to grip better when cranked over, the more rounded profile suggesting mre road bias and they do feel less squirmier than the Tourances when really cranked over.

Hi Bateman and Muppet,

Perhaps the pressures you're running them at MAY have something to do with it....I say that because I'm getting a pair fitted tomorrow and have been looking at this thread on the Dunlop website:

http://www.dunlopmotorcycle.com/fitmentguide.asp

where you'll see they recommend running them at 36(f) and 42(r).

Hope that may help,

Cheers, Tony

I had 607s fitted to my GS1100 about 1200 miles ago and apart from wondering how long they will last, cannot find fault with them as a road bias tyre.
The rear has a very small wear edge left but it is the front that I am impressed with. Never has it played up, only the rear has stepped out of line but that is because I throttle too early coming out of a bend.

Tony - Thanks for that. Interesting that the US site has different pressure recommendations than the UK site. I wonder if the US pressures are for 2-up and loaded. I may increase the pressures tomorrow and see how that feels.

607 is a great tyre - wear at rear is fast but front not showing much signs - suspect may get 3 rears for one front. Absolutely no reason to change from them - even with the pegs scaping havnt had a squirm from them yet

Bateman, those pressures you're running are definitely low. I'd put at least 34-36 up front, and 36-38 in the rear. You'll feel the difference right away.

I personally love the D607's.... and I'm coming off a Michelin shod RC51.

I am very heavy fitted on the GS, and the D607's fail to disappoint.
