I've got a Dutch import Yamaha Divvy 900.

I would like to use the same spec. GL5 gear oil in both bikes. I suspect that I can, but my Dutch is non existant.

Here goes, what does this say?

OPMERKING
"GL-4" is een aanduiding voor de kwaliteit en voor de chemische samenstelling. U **** ook "GL-5" of "GL-6" hypoide versnel-lingsbak-olie gebruiken.

My interpretation based just on the looks & phonetics are.

GL-4 is the preferred quality lubricant. You can use GL-5 or GL-6 oil instead.

Intelligent replies only please......................................... Hmm, on this site:blast

Seriously what does it say

that's it pretty much

appart from the cloggies going on about the special chemicals in GL4

Rough translation:

"GL-4 indicates quality and chemical compatibility. You can also use GL-5 or GL-6 hypoid gear oil."

At the risk of being abused for being dense. :augie

I have to ask this, Why use gear oil? I've only ever put engine oil (what oil do you use....I hear you cry) in my bikes.

Because gear oil is specifically designed to cope with the higher shear stresses encountered inside a transmission and/or final drive assembly than engine oil. At least that's what a petrochemical engineer tells me.

Thank you but I know that.:thumb

I didn't think a Divvy had a seperate gearbox requiring it's own oil. Which as far as I know would be the only reason.

Thanks Aurelius, do you speak the language or are you doing the same as me, semi guessing?

Yes, 900 divvies are shaft drive.
