Thanks for the replies chaps.

I think what I'm really after, is a program that strips off all the extra stuff that comes on DVD's, saves the movie as an avi, m4v, wmv etc file in pretty good quality, so that I can just copy / stream the movie over to my chipped xbox.

Mac, or PC, or both please.

This has to be safer for the actual DVD disc.

I do apologise for not even mentioning this in my original post, which wasn't really very helpful.

cheers

I've tried this one, Magic DVD Ripper, and it's really good (think I might buy it, $35)

http://www.magicdvdripper.com/

You can download and try it free for 5 sessions (as many DVDs as you like per session) so it might be worth a look.

I have the same set-up as yourself - XBMC on an old XBox hooked up to a NAS - brilliant. :thumb2

Thank you for the help chaps

Thanks chaps for the replies.

Hi Glenboy, good to see I'm not the only one with this setup. Generally it works well, apart from large movie files, which the old Xbox will not play nicely with. I am toying with building a HTPC very soon, to centralise everything, dvd playback, TV recording, music etc.

I've just tried Magic DVD Ripper and it's pretty good. Worked perfectly on Alvin and Chipmunks. Easy.

But, and this is sad, I've just ripped "Peppa Pig Flies a Kite" and although it saves all the episodes as one avi file, I cannot set up the ripping process to include the episode selection. I guess that cannot be done in avi format, which kind of makes sense.

I cannot see any options that allow that in Magic DVD Ripper, so does anyone know how I rip a DVD to hard disk, in such a way as to include the episode selection ?

I cannot quite see how my life has come to this, trying to figure this out for Peppa Bloody Pig ! But anyway

cheers
Aaron
