Why is it that when recording using sonic a home clip and burning it onto a re-writable DVD Disc that it will not play in power Dvd like the rest of the pre-recorded Stuff?

It will play in real Player but not Power dvd? Then it wont play on my TV DVD player?

Now i know that some discs are + or - . Now my mate can play his back on Power dvd he uses - but i use + but can't?

The other thing is my TV DVD player takes only + discs but i have a +disc but it wont play as it says its not in the same format but it is?

will TV DVD players not play RW discs as neither my mate or Mine will play in My TV DVD player Or his?

Its a Dell 8400

now going into Device Manager this is what i have it says........

DVD/CD ROM DRIVES HL-DT-ST DVD ROM GDR81638

It also has......

Philips DVD+RW DVD....Which was the RW DVD discs i am trying to use at present i would presume.

Its a minefield! + this - That???
It wont play on this, will play on that?

Can somebody by the information i have given you put me and my mate straight on this.
Can you clarify?
The only thing i can do is Burn onto the disc using sonic but after that It wont play on powerDVD only on real player but the thing that gets me is i specifically bought the + as i knew my TV DVD recorder was a + but it wont accept it.

Whats it about Wizz kids please Clarify this mess.......FANUM!!!

:)

Funnily enough Banger me old fruit, I'm having similar problems.......I've burnt a couple of gig of photographs and files onto a DVD for someone, and it won't show up on my other DVD drive....in fact, that drive insists the DVD is blank still.

I haven't had a chance to poke around and learn why yet, so I'm interested in any answers that come up here as well ;)

Maybe.....

In order to play "home recorded" DVDs you may have to use the recording software to close the disc or publish it. I think it's something to do with how non PC drives (or DVD engines) read the disc. If it doesn't see a proper DVD structure it'll assume the disc is blank.

On my PC DVD I always have to close the disc and on a mates Sony DVD camcorder I have to publish the disc before being able to play recordable DVDs on a normal DVD player.

The above works for me but someone else may have more info.

Close the disc and publish it/ What do you mean?

In order for a DVD player to "read" a DVD there needs to be certain track information on the disc that the player reads as it needs to know where to start playing and how to navigate from menus to episodes. Without this info, your DVD-R is just a disc of data in no particular order. A PC DVD drive may be able to read this as it's only looking for data but a DVD player may have problems as there's no structure to the disc.

I believe, could be wrong, finalising the disc effectively adds a table of contents to the disc that a DVD player can read and locate your seperate clips that have been burnt onto the DVD-R.

Below is a cut and paste from Roxio Media Creater, the software I use for creating DVDs:

Finalizing DVD discs
Follow this procedure to finalize a DVD disc. You must finalize DVD-R and DVD+R discs before you can play them on your DVD player:

You do not need to finalize DVD-RW, or DVD+RW discs.

To finalize a DVD disc:
In DVD Builder, choose Tools > Finalize Disc.
The Finalize DVD Disc dialog box opens.

Insert the disc that you want to erase.
Select the drive that contains the disc from the drop-down list.
Click OK.

********************

Have a quick look through the help files of your burning software or let me know what it is and I'll have a look on the web.

Someone out there may have a better understanding of this than me.........

Would a Camera Digital video clip (4.1mp) play on a DVD player?
If put it in Full screen on a 19inch Monitor the resolution is not good as you can imagine. And yet a recorded Film from the TV did?

Could this be that the DVD would only accept a level of Quality before it will play it?

I am getting a DVD Camcorder this week, my understanding is it records straight onto a 3 inch mini DVD disc but transfer from there to the TV DVD player is a Question.
Surely it goes through the PC and onto a normal sized Disc? But by the description you play this small disc straight into the DVD player?

Can someone explain the Procedure.:beerjug:
