After various problems with our home PC I done a clean install of the O/S , problems all solved (mostly ?) but heres the bit I forgot to check before wiping everything out.

Im trying to set up my e-mail account 'again' I use freeserve as my ISP , any one know where the (pop3) (smtp) bits suppose to go and do I type freeserve or freeserve .co.uk , .com etc etc

TIA

I'm making an assumption you are using Microshite Outlook Express, in which case from the menu select Tools - Accounts - Add - Mail then follow the wizard through. The SMTP/POP is the third screen (E-mail server names).

POP settings = pop.freeseve.com
SMTP settings = smtp.freeserve.com

Hi Stef,

What email program are you using (Outlook, Outlook Express etc?)

If using Outlook, do Tools->Services and you should see a service called "Internet E-Mail". If you dont, click Add... select "Internet E-Mail" and start entering the settings.

The settings in question can be found here: http://www.freeserve.co.uk/help/connection/freeservesettings.htm?linkfrom=Help&link=channelmenu

If you are using Outlook Express, there is a Freeserve guide here: http://www.freeserve.com/help/id/6145.htm

next time, export accounts from OE to somewhere safe before formatting.

yeah, but if you do it NOW, next time (and if you're using W98 or ME, there will be a next time) it will be sooo much easier

copy Dial Up Networking entry too if you have a modem.

yip you think i would have learned that after the last time :P
all i need to do is stop the bloody modem "squeaking" even tho the volume levels turned 'off'

To stop the modem squeaking, you need to send an "AT" command to the modem to get it to shut up.

ATM0 (that's a zero at the end) is the one you want.

Not sure what modem you have, but you should put this command in the dial string before the number you dial e.g.

ATM0,01234657473

Try that.
