Thanks Guys,

In the end I've bought some Koss Sparkplugs off ebay for £10.
Some reviews are great, some are bad, so I may have wasted my money, then I'll have to buy some Sony's, then some Shures, in the end it would probably have been cheaper to get some customs made up.
I'm not going to try the silicone thing, or I might when SHMBO starts whinging, and just leave it to set hard ! :thumb

Didn't fancy a butt plug then?

Sony MDR-EX71 are very good- excellent sound quality and 3 sets of in-ear thingies to make sure you get the correct fit. They are also very small and wont get knocked out of your ears when you put your helmet on. They are around £30 from argos but have seen them on fleabay and amazon for less.

They also have a fairly short cable and an extension supplied- you wont have miles of cable coming out of your helmet either.

My choice as well, plus awsome sound quality and stop a fair bit of external noise! :beerjug:

Don't know if I'm missing something but silcon..... self hardening rubber.......£100...all seems a bit complicated

Sony's are £25.44 on Amazon for the black ones, the white ones are three quid cheaper???

Sony MDRs

Just a word of warning on the Sony butt plugs, the soft rubber coating in the wires has stripped off my earphones after a couple of months...
They sound ok, a bit bass heavy but not too bad. Just the build quality lets them down.
Pat.

Shures E5C come in at around £200 custom molded monitors (or On the Spot Monitors OTiS as we call them) from Green Leopard come in at around £150 and are designed to be used on a bike. The bit that takes the wear and tear is a plastic tube rather than an electrical cable so it doesn't break - and even if you do trash it it's a few pence to fix rather than an expensive electronic repair.

DISCLAIMER:I am a Green Leopard agent. Other custom molded products exist and you should look at them all before you make your mind up. (just checked the competition's website and they come in at the same price.)

I'm not trying to flog you anything just pointing out that it's cheaper to buy custom than to buy Shures.

The E5Cs can be retro-fitted to a custom earplug but you'd never get it under a crash helmet! Top bit of kit though

Straight forward custom-made earplugs don't cost the earth and they work superbly. Fil (schianinni) did mine as he is a Green Leopard agent - he won't tell you that but I will because he gives a good service, and good service deserves to be promoted. I can't remember off the top of my head how much they were, but when you consider that they will last at least 5 years they work out a lot cheaper than disposable ones.

Aww shucks! Thanks David.

I use the Sonys, but I don't find that any of the three options for the attenuation work very well. I've lashed something together using these and although they take some getting used to, they allow low volumes to be used at high speeds.

Bingo! I started with the top ones, then made the bottom ones.

Get some Koss "the plug" one from ebay.

For really good stuff, buy some silicone putty (web) and mould your own plugs to fit on the Koss'. I did this - now have customs, cost me about £20 all - in. They are quiet and comfy, and have great sound quality.

Don't do what I did and buy the Koss Sparkplug as opposed to the Koss Plug. The Koss Sparkplug is about the size of a real sparkplug , sticks out of your ear and doesn't fit under the helmet well.
