Earplugs

schiannini

No the GL ones are not the same, they are a full shell earplug not a mini canal type, Headsetservices are a GL provider so would provide the same as GL.
This is a very high quality musicians Monitor.

Due to the wind noise that you will still hear altough at a level that won't do any harm filtered eraplugs are a better option at £65 and won't break.

stick em in twist em pull em out and keep your hearing in tact a little late for me but they have stopped me from going completely deaf just in time  blu

ultimate Ear

I've no worries about plugging Ultimate Ear's plugs.. great kit, excellent sound quality, great service, good quality product etc. etc. (and worth the dosh)! For the record, I do use the inline volume control topo balance the Streetpilot volume with that of my Ipod...

I only have two little grumbles;
1) The cable lengths are more than sufficient - I suppose this is better than being too short, but I've yet to find a satisfactory way of winding up and keeping the excess out of the way. I sometimes wish there was a coiled lead alternative to match my Autocom.

2) The 3.5mm jacks supplied are right angled, which just seems a bit odd to me. Dave (at Ultimate Ear) did offer to change it for me afterwards, but I never got round to sending them back. If you order a pair, get straight connectors if you can.

Finally, whilst reading an Ipod site, I noticed Ultimate Ear US have launched a new product - UE-10 Pro with two speaker channles (for better base quality). Very expensive, but very cool if you've got plenty of dosh to chuck around!!

http://www.ipodlounge.com/reviews_more.php?id=3710_0_6_0_C that there is a newer speaker system (I think).

Ultimate Ear vs Green Leopard

Ultimate Ear custom molded = £140
Green Leopard = £190

Ultimate Ear = ear canal only (more likely to fall out?)
Green Leopard = whole shell (less likely to fall out?)

Ultimate Ear = ?? compound
Green Leopard = Silicone

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHH!

The choice is getting harder not easier the more I find out.

Both companies have been really helpful and are trying to help me make an informed decision. Green Leopard will let me go and try various "standard" plugs before comitting to custom molded ones.

Has ANYONE had both kinds?
Any other 'little' niggles like Ellis?
It could well come down to silly things like connectors.

More advice please!

I take it then schiannini that you are not interested in the Compromise idea that I posted earlier...........a lot cheaper and pretty well as effective...........;)

Ellis,

I find that by putting the excess wire under a breast pocket flap with Velcro keeps things from flapping about,

you do of course need a breast pocket on your Jacket to do this........:D

Unless your ear canals are perfectly cylindrical, either type are unlikely to fall out!

Had a pair from Headset Services - excellent fit, performance excellent. Only quibble was that they only keep the moulds for 3 months, so when I lost them, I was unable to get another set for less than the full whack, around £70 + VAT.
I now have a set of Squidgies from Ultimate Ear - not quite such a good fit, but I haven't worn them all day yet. Attenuation probably better than the HSS pair, although these are not filtered.
Don't have a bike anymore, so their main use is now noisy environments at work (chiller rooms 110dB plus) and clay shooting.
Ultimate Ear also give you the raw casts so you can get another set done cheaper.

My tuppence-worth

The earplugs I use are custom moulded for my ears only. It cost about £30 to get the mould (mold?) made by a local hearing aid specialist and around £70 to have them made up by Hearing Resolutions I use the Safe Sound model.

I've done dozens of gigs using them and they have never fallen out. They have also lasted for years and are much more comfortable than any foam type earplug that I've worn.

I don't know whether they do ones with speakers in though.

Cheers

My orginal ultimate ear jobbies were blockers, which were solid ear canal only type things. And I found they just kept falling out.

Had a chat with Dave at Ultimate and he sorted me out with whole shell softer ones.

I'd go for whole shell, like in the pics;

To be honest, I think oi've just got big earoles :D

The blockers are half this size, altho it's not too apparent on the site.

Why don't you go and meet the Judge & the guys at the BMF show in Peterborough 22-23rd May? (link here). You could have a look at what they all have.............

I'd imagine Ultimate & Green Leopard would be there too, so you could go and do a bit of ear plug kicking too.

Just a thought.

These speakers WILL highligt all and any deficiencies in the installation and fitment of your Autocom system, I have yet to eradicate the electrical supression type noise or the crackling pic-up noise when connected to my SPIII and I am using all the correct leads, the correct power source and the Autocom approved location for the hub/control unit.

I will need to make what is my 3rd trip to Autocom to resolve this
:( [/B]

Think they will fit a 173 lead, if not on there now.

Thank you all.

Coolcarbon, no offence - It's not just the price I'm interested in. I'm really trying to find the best for me.

Jon - I think the BMF would be the place to see it all under one roof (so to speak)

Last year we were just up the road (so to speak) from you guys at the Ural Rider's Association (tatty rusty sidecars) Mine was the one on it's side for those of you who remember it.

I also seem to remember that every single GS tried to get on the cavalcade :D

It would be great to put some faces to names.

See you there.
