Hi Folks. I've just booked the ferry to Bilbao on 22nd April (easter Friday) for the Missus and myself on two bikes. Need to be out of the country for the Royal Wedding :)

We are away for up to ten days mooching around. Planning to come back via France. Could be any departure point, might stay the last night in Honfleur.

Just wondering if anybody knows what the weather is likely to be like in the Pyrenees around then? Are all the roads likely to be open? I'm not sure I'll be very popular if I take her into snowy/icy conditions, not that she couldn't cope but.....

Also, I've picked up a few great pointers on accommodation reading through this section. Thanks to you all. What a great site this is :thumb2

Ah, just been talking to my mate who lives near there. We are trying to arrange a bit of riding and 'merrymaking' together while we are in Spain.

You never know we might see you on the road somewhere :)

Riders Rest

Dave,
Give Riders Rest (Tony) a bell on this site as he owns and runs a bikers only B&B in the Central Massif area of France. As a former family member of myself (Ex HM Forces) he will be able to give you the heads up on the weather conditions and such like.

Last Easter I crossed back from Spain with my beloved. Hairy, ice and snow at altitude, 25degrees centigrade back in the Avignon area though.

Weather in the South at Easter is variable, we've had really hot years and some impressive snow falls

Don't spend too much time in the French pyrennees at that time of year unless you like rain, Spain should be quite good though.

Thanks for all the advice Folks. :thumb2

We've just decided to come back on the ferry from Bilbao and spend our time riding around Spain and Portugal. We've only been to Portugal once before on the bikes and think there's a lot more to see whereas we've been to France too many times to count.

if you're on the Cap Finistere sailing from Portsmouth Good Friday I'll see ya there... :)

Nice one:thumb2

Not much chance of an early night on Friday then:D

I was going to do this trip on my RT but I might have to take the GS now that I'm going to be spotted!

Look forward to meeting you all.

Welcome to the forums...enjoy your time here..

:)

If you have a wee peep at this whole forum section you should find all you need to know...

For info the weather here in April can be very warm but as alway can be changeable at that time of year....check the weather forecasts ahead of anything....usually not too far out...a lot of the mountain passes will still be closed at altitude...Just check with any local tourist office and they can offer advice....

Mrs Nudibranch and I have also booked the ferry to Bilbao on 22 April and are planning on riding down to Andalucia (one bike) for a week via Salamanca/Seville.

Look forward to meeting fellow Tossers on the ferry.:beerjug:

Ps. Thanks to all who have already provided useful information about the area. :bow However, can anyone recommend a decent camp site in the Ronda area?:camping

Changed our plans now! We are staying in Bibao for the first two nights and then moving on to Ainsa. Staying at hotels recommended on this site :)

After that we are mooching around Spain, hoping to meet up with old friends for a day or two, then booked on ferry back from Bibao on the 30th.

Me too. Crossing on Good Friday, back on the 30th, and there will be 4 of us.

I reckon there won't be many cars on the boat at this rate...
:roll

Getting closer! How will we all recognise each other? I'll be the balding one on a BMW........mmmm that may not work :D

I'll be on that crossing too with 4 others, you'll see me wobbling around with a beer or 2, cant wait!!! :)

We'll all be in the same queue to get on the boat. If you miss us there, we'll be in the bar shortly after boarding.
