Easter Wander 2014 - Vianden - 17-21 April

Folks i'm having problems with map spource on my new computer. It wont let me download the routes because mapsource is locked. I don't know the password or how to get it, as anyone any ideas what i'm doing wrong? Is there any other way of getting the routes on my sat nav.

Cheers( i'm such a technophobe)

Hi Homer,

You could consider using 'Tyre' http://www.tyretotravel.com/download-tyre/ to open, view and then send it to your Garmin (or even TomTom) device. I am a newbie at using Garmin's BaseCamp and I already detest it.

I've used Tyre for a few years now and found it to be very good. It uses Google Maps as a mapping system, so its reliable, accurate and easy to navigate around with. I was delighted to find I can use it with my Garmin 660 after my Tom Tom finally failed. I found that using Tyre I could view each route separately, and as it uses Google Maps gives you so much more functionality and information. It is quite easy to use and is a free download (you don't need the paid-for version that doesn't have adverts in the side bar, just go for 'basic)

Al :)

Sounds like your maps are locked, have you registered your device with Garmin?

I've been using Tyre for the last couple of months. I just did not have the time or inclination to learn mapsource.. I just like things to work..! It's a windows based program but will work on Mac very well. You just have to down load a program like Wine to work.

There's a group of us going out on the 1550 crossing if you want to meet up?

I am getting excited now! Seems to have arrived quickly and I've been too bust at work to worry about it. But bike is serviced, new rear tyre fitted, should be home from Portsmouth tomnorrow afternoon, Thursday to pack. I'm on the 18:36 crossing but may try and sneak an earlier shuttle if poss.

Weather is looking hopeful too - certainly no snow forecast, and hardly any rain either. And the restaurant in Chimay open as well.

I haven't downloaded the routes yet - that will be a task for Thursday when, if ti all goes wonky, there'll be no time to sort it out! I do have maps, though.

See you all soon, either on the shuttle or in St Omer.

Robin et al, you may want to get back to the tunnel very very early if the wait to get through customs is anything like last sunday :toungincheek

Choosing to travel in the Easter holidays, as we have, inevitably means there will be queues for us all* as we reach Coquelles.

I say "us all" when really I mean "you all." I shall be flashing my Home Office pass to all and sundry and speeding on ahead. As you queue up in the blazing sun or pouring rain, I will be sipping a Champagne cocktail or a cup of finest Darjeeling in the luxury of the staff rest room. And tipping off colleagues that the bloke on the K1600GT has a kilo of crack in his (topbox/pannier/camshaft cover/vest/arse). I haven't decided which yet.

Morning everyone, typically it's been a busy night for me. Looks like it's going to be lovely day.. Have a good ride down.

I have switched (at considerable expense) onto the 17:36.

Will be meeting rtosser (predictive text brings up rotisserie) and NLC to make steam towards La Belle France.

Off to a cracking start!

Long delays at the Chunnel. Rtosser (Richard) North London Cookie (Corie) and I have diverted to Richard's house, not far from Aylesford. We have booked ourselves onto the 06:06 train on Friday, so should be at St Omer at around 08:30.

Given that the hotel car park is quite congested, I suggest we meet at the main square by the Queen Victoria pub, which is next to the Dickens pub, at say 08:45.

I hear that NeilDD and three of the others, who were on the 15:30 train, may well switch to the ferry. Robin, was in a queue to check-in but may turn around and go home as he lives in Folkestone and then go out tomorrow. I hear that Stuart is on the country roads via J12, trying to find his friend Peter.

I have cancelled our three rooms in St Omer. All the other rooms are still booked.

Everyone should have my mobile number. Let's stay in touch.

Richard
