Easy green lanes in Surrey ?

I can't make it, I'll be in Las Vegas (seriously, on business), but would love to hear the report, with pictures, and hopefully I'll be able to come along next time.

lanin in Surrey etc,

Right you lot.

If I was to lead a run this coming Sat or Sun in and around surrey who would be up for it?

I know a good route that is 142km long, with some lovely trails and some nice tarmac roads and one ford. I did this route a while back on my GS with some others from this site. We had a great time.
I will miss out one lane that is a bugger.

I need to start from the Punch Bowl on the A3, as the route is a ring finishing at the same point.

I know the whole route, so no getting lost and fiddling with maps.
You will also be on legal trails that i have used for years with no problems.

With an option to go home if you want to call it a day.

I'm up 4 something

....someone make a decision as to Punchbowl or Newlands and we'll go from there.

If the Adv is back by next weekend I'd quite fancy a trip out as well

Hi all,

Hi Tone, unfortunatley, I won't be able to make it this time as I'm moving on Friday, but, I feel i have to offer a word of warning to anybody considering going on this ride.

No Knobblies, no go!
You need to be able to handle a bike off road, and be prepaired for it to be dropped.
Tonys' a top bloke and I've ridden with him a few times, he'll see you right, but you must remember, "you" are responsible for yourselves and your bikes.

I'll say no more people, you have been warned.

You will have a great day.

This thread I started has created quite a bit of interest, I think because there are many people who want to do some EASY green lanes, and are NOT interested in deep mud etc. Anyone who kindly offers to lead a group from this thread should understand this (or be very clear to everyone before they start just what the lanes are going to be like). I have done the BMW offroad course on a 1200 and it was quite extreme, & great fun, BUT, not on my own bike....

Tony ,
Any chance of sharing the route with those of us who can't make Monday?

Monday ride

Hi Guys - great to see the response this has generated. Maybe we'll even be able to get a regular team out during the rest of the year....??

Personally I can not do Sat/Sun, so I will certainly be doing Newlands Corner on Monday for a couple of hours of moderate (i.e. Tourance and expensive paint-friendly) riding.

If you fancy it, let's get a decent start (Tobers, are you OK with 08h00?) so that anyone with other duties during the day can fit it all in.

Maybe drop me a PM with a mobile number if you intend to be there so we know how many to wait for.

Cheers,

PG

Monday 0800 at Newlands Corner for a gentle Tourance-shod trundle is good for me.

Will drop you a PM with mobile info.

See you there.

Oi - RichieS - expect to see you too mate!

Lanin

Hi all.

The thing with riding off road, its hard to determine whats hard and whats easy.
A real easy lane for an experianced off road rider can be a very hard challenge for a begginer. It all depends on how good you are off road.

Most of the lanes in surrey are easy, in SUMMER. Things change from day to day. Ie , if it rains the night before. In winter they can be a real challenge on a GS.

My route in Surrey will be a no no for a begginer. but if you have some experiance and are running TKCs you should be fine.

like i said I will guide a run on Sat or Sun if you wish.

For a real easy day out i suggest hertfordshire, your gran could do the lanes there. as a bonus herts has a great big FORD to play in. I will guide there too if you like.. no worrys ..Tony Allen

Jimbo and all

Sorry guys...

I cant share the route with you guys because its in my head.
I once put it on paper in a roadbook format, but 142km is a fair amount of imformation, and takes up around 9 pages. (150boxes)

But.. im willing to lead this run, on a regular basis, say every 4-6 weeks.

set a date and I WILL turn up and guide.

I can also guide on a pogo for the extreme stuff, Wales ,
yorkshire etc...

newlands corner

hi all.

Can I come on the ride monday? I fancy a day out.

Tony Allen....

Yep - see you there (Newlands Corner at 8AM Monday if I recall). No going too fast and showing us all up though, what with your nobbly tyres and all.

out monday

Tobers...

My nobblie tyres will be smoother than a babys bottom.

Im riding up to scotland Sat morning, having a look around lock lomond. My wife is up there visitig the in laws. Coming back on the Sunday.

Hopefully see you all monday..If my arse can take any more.

Ooohhh errr mrs..

Tony Allen..

A quick recce this afternoon reveals a number of tracks are pretty muddy (aka bugger all grip at the front on Tourances!). However, another couple are passable and quite amusing. If there is no rain between now and Monday they will be in an even better condition.

One track went down a pretty steep looking hill, but was v.narrow and there was a land rover coming up it, so I decided not to venture that way. I'll be looking for volunteers to try this one out on Monday :D

See you at 8am at Newlands Corner. Mine's the dirty yellow one.

Andy
