What is the collective wisdom Re the header protectors on eBay...basically ithey are bolt on guards which should protect the headers from stones and stuff...

Are they any use in reality or are they more for the Posers who want the “rugged adventure look”

My trails are gravelly and rocky with little to no mud and soil and I am a wuss who runs away from the slightest risk of damaging the bike ;)

Are you sure they're not for the effete 1200 brigade; you, an 1150GS owner are by definition made of sterner stuff and should dismiss such items as fol-der-rol whilst sniffing haughtily ;)

In reality they are pointless shite so man up.

the link for the record is

@Oblertone; While I am not erudite enough to use such terms as "fol-der-rol" in my common parlance, I am perfectly aware that any half decent 1150 can take a battering and come through with its self respect intact, more so than these posh 1200s which tend to prefer to while their time at seaside cafes and other such trendy watering holes....

I will therefore keep my hard earned cash in my pocket :) :)

Fol der rol is a wonderful word. Tip of the hat to you.

15 yrs or so ago on one of my Moroccan trips a guy crashed his 1150 and crushed the header to the point he wouldn't ride it back, imo he could have either ridden it or got it repaired.

Would a pair of these guards have minimised the damage?

Who knows, probably.

I never used them on the 1150 partly because the pipes are tough, however I do use one on a KTM 950 as the header is relatively thin becoming softer when hot.

Just consider what an utter ball ache it would be after negotiating a bit of claggy mud.
