For Sale Ebay trade seller — low feedback

Looking at a cat N bike on ebay, trade seller.
The seller seems to have very little feedback as seller. I'd be happy to have bike delivered as cost probably lower that travel and would give me time to sort out insurance.
Dealer is tradebikes
How safe is this? 🤔
 
Given that they are ex insurance claims thats probably a little understanding.
But very surprised with the lack of feedback as a seller. 😞
 
To clarify something for you, there is no such thing as a trade sale, if the purchaser is not a trader..

It's a retail sale in that case and retail consumer laws apply!

A trade sale is only valid if the sale is from a trader to another trader, and then consumer protections do not apply
 
A lot of these deals are done face to face and don’t go through eBay hence the low feedback , it’s the same with a lot of car traders on eBay.
 
i've had a look at his profile/listings. Those vehicles are Classified adverts, so there is no seller feedback updated from anything purchased, as it is done outside of eBay. Similar to how Autotrader works.

As Santa has mentioned you always have buyers rights as a consumer. Even more so, under the distance selling regulation if the vehicles turns up not as described.

I'm looking for a mid size scooter for commute to work. (hence not too bothered with a nice bike.)
He has a couple of suitable options.
 
I’d walk. Plenty of better options imho.

Sold as project means if it goes bang 50 m down the road, bad luck.

If the seller insists that the vehicle is trailered away, demonstrating it’s not considered roadworthy, then most consumer laws will not be relevant even for a private buyer.
 
He didn't state that. But given the distance I think I'm getting a nearer one, if if dearer.
 
I dont know that seller or his bikes, so these comments are not about him/it per se; more about distance buying off ebay.

This week i put a large to me deposit down on a sprinter, classified ad, supposedly a company selling. Spoke to the guy, checked companies house for names and addresses, web, google image lens, dvla (mot history and veh details), hpi etc. all came back correct. Paid deposit to a verified uk bank account.

Rode down 290 miles in the rain on thursday to collect, and no sign of van. Address given was the registered companies address but the whole ad was a scam.

Ive never been the victim of a scam until now, but theres always a first.

I basically wouldnt pay much, if anything on a distance sale now until id actually attended, seen and about the receive the goods. Any deposit i pay in future will be a couple hundred at most. I've been burnt.

Sounds like a sophisticated scam, if everything checked out and cross referenced
Very devious
Did you get burnt badly ?
Makes you want to use main or at least accredited used dealers
If you paid deposit on Credit Card you may get some recompense
 
The DVLA history would check out fine as it’s probably a legitimate van, just not owned by the seller advertising it. A bit late now but a quick check on eBay at the sellers other items often reveals a scammer, they usually have lots of vehicles, vans, cars, bikes etc, all at very good prices. Studying the pics reveals they are on different driveways, car parks, forecourts etc, as the pics have been lifted from other ads. This one sounds a bit more sophisticated though as JB says. So sorry to hear this happened to you, hopefully the bank or credit union card company will reimburse you.

It was bank transfer.
Over £2k. Savings as i don't earn much now. That hurts. My fault for putting that amount down. Silly.
Lodged case with bank and police, but realistically dont expect money back.
Also don't think his bank will disclose details for civil claim, but i've yet to ask that.
Told ebay re ad, but they declined to take it down. I can appeal re that but not my issue any more. Friend rang him and he's still offering it.
On the plus side, it's not ruined me, just bruised me. It'll pass.
 
Sorry to hear about that. Thought to take. And ebay is becoming full of that and a terrible response regarding the listing and the seller.
