I was really surprised when servicing my 1200 this week to find the EBC after-market brake pads I fitted at last change have only managed 6000 miles. They are badly worn and need to be changed urgently.
I used them because they were a quarter of the price of BMW original parts, and expected better longevity than that, but I suppose you get what you pay for.
Does anyone have a suggestion for good aftermarket pads. I see Brembo sell their own brand. Anybody have any idea if these are good?

You said it "You get what you pay for" motobins do genuine pads, might cost you a bit more but will pay in the long run :D

Not enough information.

Fronts or back - for example.
I presume you mean backs.
If so, I suggest you use sintered pads. Helps a little.
For me, back tyore and pads every 6000 or so miles.
I find that I have to change rear brake pads with each rear tyre change.
The design is just so poor, with so little room for friction material on the metal backing plate that you could't really expect them to last much longer.
If a car manufacturer produced a car needing new brake pads every 6,000 miles they would not be long in business, but it appears bike designers can get away with shite like this.

I used Ferodo pads in mine, they out lasted the OE BMW ones.
Rear pads dont seem to last long though.

Ok thanks guys.
I''ve decided to give the ferodo sintered pads a go. You're right about the design. New pads only have about 4mm thickness from New. I'll see how these go!

Last time I changed the Front Pads on our 1200RT I searched high and wide for the same pads as BMW supply but at a cheaper price and it seems that they are not available. The BMW supplied pads have the bonded "heat" ? shim on the backplate. As far as I am aware these are un-available from other sources. Maybe someone has managed to locate a supplier, if so I would be interested. In the end I ordered Brembo pads described as O.E.M. parts form either Motobins or Motorworks (can't remember which) and they where nothing like the BMW pads. The backplates are bright Red and they don't have the bonded shim mentioned above.

Hahaha, yes indeed those EBC pads murder discs. I used them on a GT550 I despatched and the discs were so badly lipped, they were grinding the backing plate long before the end of the friction material.

EBC pads on EBC discs work well... as you'd expect. I still only get about 10k from the rears tho. And the plating on the pads doesn't last like the BMW ones do through a british winter.

But I like the feel of the EBCs better than the OE's (on EBC discs that is).
