Up a hill in Somerset!
As some of you may already know, I will be part of the Scooters in the Sahara team riding 4,000 miles through North West Afica in October this year, on a Honda C90!

The journey will take us through Spain, Morocco, Western Sahara, Mauritania and Senegal before arriving in The Gambia. On arrival the little bike will be donated to Bansang Hospital for the use of medical staff to treat patients in the outlying villages, some of them more than a days walk away.

To help raise funds for the hospital appeal (I will be funding the trip out of my own pocket), Paula and I have booked Ed March to give a presentation as detailed below.

Ed will be also talking at the Hograost this year but I know this clashes with Devon's Classic Bike weekend. There may be some folk going to that who will miss his talk.

I do have a large field which can be made available for camping if anyone would like to make a weekend of it. Shower and toilet facilities will be provided and you never know I may cook up a curry one night! The venue is about a fifteen minute walk from our house and there is a pub serving food next to that.

We hope you will find time to join us for an entertaining evening which will give an insight into riding a Honda C90 a significant distance!

Saturday 22 June 2013 8pm

North Newton Village Hall near Bridgwater, Somerset
Doors will open from 7.30pm
There will be a bar and tea & coffee will be available
Tickets cost £10 and are to be sold in advance

Ed March, a young man living in Bideford, shipped his Honda C90 to Kuala Lumpur in November 2011 and rode it 14.800 miles in 8 months back to the UK.

He travelled through Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Nepal, India, The UAE, Iran, Turkey and Europe.

He has many tales to tell and pictures to share.

Any profits made will be donated to the Bansang Hospital in The Gambia.

I am not sure what I am doing on that date yet Andy but I will attend if it's possible, I will let you know nearer the time. :thumb2

Bump for the weekend.

The response so far has been pathetic. Surely there must be more than three people from this site who have expressed interest? Free camping and an opportunity too spend the whole evening with Ed (as he is crashing here for the night) too much for some?

I thought we'd be inundated with WC owners 'cos they're always banging on about how much money they've got! Maybe they need the money for the monthly payments. :D

Thanks for coming Mike, Max and Adrian. It was great to see you there. Andy, sorry you couldn't make it. However, Paula and I have been put under pressure to arrange for Ed to return sometime and talk about his Arctic Circle trip. So there may be another chance to hear him.

We are pleased to say that we raised just short of £500. On top of that we also had a very generous donation made from an old friend of mine who I hadn't seen for over thirty years. If it weren't for this presentation I would have never seen him. He handed me an envelope to open when I got back home. It contained a cheque for £600.00!:clap

Send off in October

Hey Humbug

Sadly I couldn't make Ed's session in June and even though he takes the p*ss out of us Tossers I would've paid twice the price to hear him again after his entertaining talk at HUBB 2013. I can't find the dates for your departure in Oct but are you planning any sort of send off? I'm sure a few of the South West GSers could muster to ride you out of Zummerzet? Well, I would!

I'm seeing Andy on Wednesday so if he doesn't get to see your post I'll point it out to him.. :thumb

Ed went on for nearly 3 hours and it was bloody great, he could have carried on but it was after 11pm when he wound it up! Great stories and videos with photos too... looking forward to his Mongolia tales... :D

Thanks CoolCarbon,

I was wondering if Andy was going to put a small party together and get Ed back to do his Arctic Circle talk? If so, I know Dr Pat Garrod is back in UK mid-Oct and give to give a talk on his RTW although he might miss The Scooters' departure (when in Oct?):augie

Baz,

I shall be departing for Portsmouth on 18th October. If anyone would like to accompany me they would be very welcome. :thumb2

Ed March has already been booked to give his Arctic Circle presentation on 30th November but the location is yet to be confirmed. It will be in the Taunton vicinity though. I will post details when more is known.

Thank you for your interest.
