Edinburgh Sick Kids Toy Run: 9th November 2008

Skyenet was a star, as always making the most effort.a mother asked Iain if he would visit her son who was just gaining conciousness after surgery, he apparently got a bit of a shock seeing Santa at the side of his bed, he was also asked by staff to tour the wards handing out gifts, wearing a santa suit over his bike kit, well done Iain and Skye :thumb2

Looked like a good turn out

Sorry I could not make it. SWMBO required my assistance in a potential purchase for herself and as I have bought two new bikes this week I could not say. I'm too embarrassed to say what :o

It was a privilege to hand out the toys on behalf of everybody and a pleasure to see the faces of the kids, parents and staff when Santa and his helper arrived. There was great selection of toys donated (4 sacks) and we had no problem selecting appropriate gifts for the all the different children.

The face on the boy that woke from surgery was funny. All he saw was myself dressed as Santa and he wasn't at all sure of what was happening to him. I heard him saying to his mum that they other boys in his class said Santa was made up but that he could no tell them that he was for real. Plenty other characters including a wee girl who asked me what the weather was like when I left the North Pole this morning and how did I get through all the snow on my motorbike :mmmm. It was good having Skye go around with me because some of the young kids were wary of Santa but were fine with Skye. One wee lad in particular wouldn't come near me and got a motorbike out of the sack from Skye and then decided Santa wasn't such a bad chap anymore and started carrying the other sack for me and telling everybody that Santa was coming.

The weather turned out good and it stopped raining minutes before we left this monring and remained dry and bright for the whole day. Was cold though and very windy on the journey back West. Skye couldn't even get off the bike by the time we arrived home.

Was a good day and roll on next year :thumb

Thanks to those that have posted up photos, didn't take any pictures myself today, for a change.

If Skyenet rode along the M8 in full Xmas regalia, I'd have paid tae see some o' the other drivers' faces (especially the ones who had a skinfull last night ) :D

We actually changed at Ikea and joined the early morning shoppers for breakfast, so did get quite a few looks and smiles  (good breakfast as well and only 95p :thumb )

Despite the dry weather the streets to the Hospital were quite deserted of kids though we all got waves from folk as we passed. The Xmas music helped sound our arrival:augie

We didn't take off the Santa stuff at the hospital when we finished as the kids were looking out the windows to see us go so rode through Edinburgh city centre until we got to the Wonderland toy shop were Skye had a wee present to buy ;) We got loads of waves from kids and folk as we rode through the streets and a few drivers did indeed get a surprise when the saw us pull up alongside. Nice to bring a smile to folk's faces.

At Wonderland we went in, still dressed up, and I said to the assistant just load up everything onto my Sleigh outside and put it on Santa's tab :D That got a few laughs from staff and customers.
