This has got to be one of the worst sat nav's around.

Having put a route into to mallory into it i need to edit it, so I choose
EDIT
Add Points
Junction (which I had to find on Google!!)
it then only gives me options for Speel City,PO or search all. How do I enter a road number?

Thanks for the help

RTFM I assume it's the standard Garmin device and therefore does a very good job. It is, however a fairly complex device that rewards those who take the time to find out how it works. Instead of playing with Google why not open up Basecamp and edit your route there. That way you can get exactly the route you want. With a little practice it will take less time than coming on here to slag off the device.

I agree Barry, the Nav IV is a load of shite. I much prefer TomTom products.:rob

Unfortunately Google maps and garmin maps ,as in basecamp, seem to be two separate entities. They will often conflict with each other as to the best routing.
I`ve done routes in basecamp and then tried to open in Tyre and the route looks entirely different as Tyre relies solely on Google maps.
I now use basecamp all the time and it is worth persisting with as it talks directly to your Garmin device,in my case a zumo 550.
Not particularly helpful with your query as regards editing but give basecamp another go, its worth the time imo.

Problem with that is put the computer in the panniers means no room for luggage.

I also think the Nav IV is a pile of un helpful pooh. Basecamp isn't much better, after two hours this am, I'm ferreting around looking for my old Mapsource Disc. so I can copy n share a route with a mate. Grrr

Plenty of people do carry laptops these days. As for the devices all I can say is the people who slag them off the most are nearly always those who have never looked at the user manual. I agree,by the way, that Basecamp takes some getting used too and I still use Mapsource myself but plenty of people can make(and share) routes from Basecamp.

Sharing routes can bring problems especially where the devices are set to different preferences or have different maps. I always check guest's devices before loading any of my routes. Common problems are being set to "shortest distance" and therefore taking people on any road that is shorter even if that means, for instance, into a busy town and out again rather than remaining on the main road. On 660's and the BMW equivalent there is a default setting of "avoid seasonal closures" around here that needs to be un ticked or the device will refuse to route you over the high passes.

As I have said these are complex devices that will reward those who are prepared to learn and equally frustrate those who can't be bothered.

If you can't even navigate your way to the GPS info section of this site (one click is all it takes) you have no chance of finding your way around a Nav 4 device. :thumb:D

Try TYRE.

No don't, I downloaded the latest Tyre update and it just does not work! Screwed up my existing routes too. No reply from Tyre to 2 Emails either. I'm using itn converter for those misguided souls who persist in using TomTom, still uses google maps so they are just plain wrong around here. Garmin maps are much better but still not as good as the openstreetmap version. I still don't understand why you all persist in paying/using Garmin maps with all the hassle that involves when you can get free and very simple to load maps from openstreetmap. It's no contest as far as I can see.

I'm with the Grey One and lets face it if you can't post in the right section you're ability with a sat nav is going to be impaired.

ok I will try there, but my guess is no one knows how to do it or it doesn't work.
I have posted in the other section, as it seems that you can ask questions here about the bolt on extra lugguage but not the bolt on nav system!

Its actually not too difficult to edit a route,, just takes practice as its not obvious,,

rather than pick a predetermined option,, city etc,, go to 'map' its an option and search for where you want to go, select it ,, it will become a way point and add it to your route,,,,

practice and trial and error and you don't need a PC to do it,, I toured Europe and can sit in hotel room or at bar and alter or create routes,, .

if you want more help ping me,, cheers

I just wish there was an EASY way to save a google route as a GPX file, as their software makes planning a route child's play.:rob I still haven't figured out how to do it, so if anyone has any ideas....:augie

Making a route on Mapsource is easy too. You can use the routing tool and simply click on the roads you want to use just like with Google maps only the map bears some resemblance to reality!
