I am hoping to move to my home in Eyrecourt, Co Galway before Christmas, but want to have access to Broadband on arrival ( or at least a decent internet connection speed).

Have just spoken to a ?charming Asian fellow who could not find my house listed ( house is over 100yrs old and previous owner had a phoneline from eircom) and hence could not tell me if I could get broadband in the area. I suspect that it is not available yet .

His solution to this problem was to try to get me to order a phone line and to call back in a month to see if Broadband is available yet , hmmm.

What does the panel recommend for fast internet in the Midlands, is Eircom as bad as my first experience suggests?

I'm not sure if the eircom exchange serving Eyrecourt is Broadband (DSL) enabled, but I'll find out. Assuming it is, eircom will be able to provide DSL to you IF the house is within a specific distance from the exchange. In ANY case, eircom DSL is provided via a phone line, so you will NEED an eircom phone line if you want eircom DSL.

So, the sequence of events has to involve getting a line in before you can get DSL. There are various 'bundle' offers available for broadband, line rental and calls etc. See here
http://www.eircom.net/broadband

There may be other wireless operators in the area, but DSL is probably the most stable and reliable option. If you want to follow this up, I should be able to assist. PM me your details, including (if you have them) accurate address/GPS co-ords for the house; better still if you knew the number that was once connected to the premises.....

Thanks for the prompt reply .

Trying to PM, realised that I have to subscribe. Done that, now guess I have to wait for the payment to be recognised .? how long does this take?

Will then send the details with more accuracy.

I you get a land line number of a nearby house you can check if broadband is available on. Go to the "check your line for broadband" on the Eircom site.

Broadband ???

Got fed up with Eircom's excuses Had tried to get some info as to when, promices, promices, Finally went for mobile broadband with O2 never had a problem with it . works perfectly , the best bit its only € 20 a month Just have to log on when I boot up , there is no limit on it.
One satisfied coutomer. Check around there are lots of wire less brodband providers out there , Eir com wasted so much of my time with their stupidity.

So Eircom Broadband is not availble in my area of E Galway, now starting to research other options.

I am also told that Sky broadband is not available in Ireland

Anyone care to recommend /share expeience of wireless providers and cost/value?

Please?

Broadband

Hello,

I had an experience with Ice Broadband in Dublin, and I would advise you to stay well clear of them. They are a wireless BB provider, and their package looks quite good but in reality its very poor. Nearly every week I was on to their tech support, with no joy.
I was stuck in a one yaer contract so couldnt get out til the end.
Im now with BT adsl BB and would highly recommend them.
No problems at all.
Maybe give BT a shout to see if they can supply you?
I got a lot of information from www.irishisptest.com
They might be able to help you further. they also have a full list of BB providers in the country.

Broadband

Just a simple way to check for mobile broadband.

If your mobile phone works well , I mean is if you get more than three bars as signal strength on it , the mobile BB should be OK also works on the same network ypu just have to buy the little box with its card , If I remember it was about €80 , I've got a 3meter long extension cable and my little box is clipped near an outside window .
Check your O2 shop for futher info.

3G

You could try a 3G connection, basically it broadband over a mobile network, the costs have come down dramitically but you woluld need to check availability in your area, Vodafone, 02 & 3 do them.
