He's an engineer who frequently gets bored and entertains himself by shoe-horning modern Ducati engines into Elefant chassis.
He reckons it's just a speculation as to what Ducati might have developed the Ele into - in reality it's just satisfying his urge to terrify European sports bike riders when they're routinely eaten alive by 20 year old trailies!
Yes gavin has done some nice work the thing about the elefant is once you have sorted one, you are hooked nothing else feels like one.
Mine was in a sorry condition when I bought it some years ago having been not well looked after. I had to replace rotors bearings repair wiring rebuild the carbs and repair the motor well you name it i had to fix it..but it goes quite well these days giving good mpg and very reliable.
What I dont understand is the BMW 1200 GS is a better bike but I find excuses to leave it in the garage and ride the elefant
My eyes were properly opened at an Elefant treffen (gathering) in Holland a few years ago.
My bike was a very sanitised 750 Lucky Explorer, absolutely standard, but I thought it looke pretty hard core due to its Lucky Strike (Explorer) stickers
On the Friday night of the gathering, bikes were rolling in from all over Europe and some Scandinavians turned up with their heavily off-road modified bikes.
Jeeeeez........
They really looked like rallye bikes, massively tall and with all the pukka nav kit and blazing lights. But what was really extraordinary was the noise they made.
With race cans they absolutely boomed, and as these were the 900s, the dry clutches on their own made enough noise to wake the neighbours - superb, it was an absolute sensory overload and hard to forget.
Those really were very special bikes, they must be incredible to own.
