Can any one help I need to get my hands on the Full Wiring Diagram for my Wife's R1100GS. 1997

Which has a problem with power to the fuel pump I have done some checks and there is no power to the Fuel pump

I have moved around the relays and this has not made any difference, all the fuses look ok.

So I guess it's time to Start at the beginning and work through the Wiring to find the fault

If any has had this problem before and can throw some light on the situation, I would be very grateful

the only diagram I have is in the Haynes Manual. Might be worth getting a copy. Other than that sorry.

If you want the BMW pdf (no wiring then) send me a Private message.

Bruce,

The following link, To Henry's hompage, is for a fusebox insert

http://www.xs4all.nl/~hkuijer/gif/fusebox-inlay.gif

This will show the layout of the various components.

I'm assuming that the RID comes on when the ignition turns on.

Put the bike on the centrestand, with the sidestand up and put the kill switch in the "run" position.

Step 1/ The fuel pump is fed via the pump relay from fuse 6, if you pull the fuse out (check it's ok) and check for 12V on one side of the fuse. if there is 12V go on to step 2

Step 2/ Replace the fuse and pull out the Fuel Pump relay and check pin 30 (fed by red cable with blue tracer) in the relay holder, there should be 12v on it if there is go on to step 3 if not the feed from the Battery has been lost.

Step 3/ Turn on the ignition and work the kill switch. You should hear the Fuel pump relay clicking. If it does go on to step 4 if not the relay has failed

Step 4/ You need to find out if there is 12V coming out of the fuel pump relay, terminal 87 (green wire with white tracer), this will be awkward to get at. It may be easier to go to either of the two fuel injector wires and check for voltage on the green wire with white tracer there. if there is a voltage there move on to step 5 if not the relay contact has either worn out or broken.

5/ you will need to lift off the fuel tank and check the same coloured wire at the connector under the tank. if there is 12v there the pump has failed if not the continuity of the green and white wire has been lost

Thanks for all your help

I will down load the Wire map and get the meter out, with any luck this problem will not be that bad

As the bike was fine one day when I put it away and then nothing the next time I went to start it

I will let you know how I get on

This forum is a top place

looking forward to meeting some of you out on the road some day soon

Regards

Just a Update

After following the good advice

I have found the Fuel Pump to be the bit that is not working

the is something else that is a little odd though the power to the fule pump is on some sort of timer that cut off after a few seconds

Now I am not sure if this is supoed to work like this or there is some thing else wrong with the system

I have ordered a second hand pump from the nice people at James Sherlock

So I will let you know how I get on with that when it comes later this week

I still have quite a lot of work to do before we will be on the road as I have to do the brakes, fix the ABS and get an MOT not apart from putting it all back together

Any how with some time off work I should be getting there very soon

Have a good Xmas and hope to see you in the sun next year

Bruce,

The Motronic Unit primes the injectors when you first turn on the ignition and then turns the pump on again. It will then turn the pump on again when the bike is running. I forgot about this in my earlier response. This can be simulated by shorting out terminals 30 & 87 on the relay connector...but then you probably know that now.

See you on the road sometime. Happy Xmas

Thanks THe GS is now up and running now!

Thanks Rob

And to every one for there sound information

Over Xmas a new Fuel pump was fitted and every thing put back together and she ran first time!

Now to sort out the ABS

I have all the information on that one, so finger crossed all will be OK with that one

Hope to see you all out on the roads during 2003

Bruce
