I am looking for a relatively new electric car for my wife , if electric it needs 200+ miles range if hybrid not an issue. She likes the look of the vw id3 or the Volvo xc40 but is open to alternatives. Anything out there ?

Could consider the Merc EQA which seem good value for a 3 or 4 year old EV - or the EQC if u can push the budget a little

Thanks will have a look she used to have a merc and did like it

We weren’t massively impressed with the Merc, didn’t feel nearly as luxurious as the Merc’s of old. The Jaguar iPace on the other hand was fabulous to drive and very nicely finished. Haven’t bought one yet, but still on the cards.

Do your research on ipace battery issues……quick google should be enough to have you walking away…..

We have a Toyota CHR full hybrid. Over the last 3000 miles my average fuel consumption is 58 mpg. Some journeys are over 70 mpg and zero range anxiety 👍
You can buy a plug in CHR too BUT it's woprth considering with a plugin if most of the mileage will be pure electric OR petrol as they will be charged 1.5p per mile which if you do mainly low mileage is ok but if you do longer trips a pure non plug in hybrid is a better buy (no pay per mile) -

lots of electric car choices out there - mg4 ? tesla's are a lot more affordable now - the options are endless. I drive a rav4 plug in - 50 mile range i seldom use any petrol :)

Skoda Octavia. Friend of mine had one. High end model leather everywhere. Good battery range. I had a Mercedes c350e. I loved it. Electric range was about 10 miles. But it ran like an ordinary hybrid when the battery was depleted. 45 mpg. I was happy with that. JJH

Agreed ^^^^^^^^ the plug in one was available when we opted for the full hybrid, but the only model variant design / excel etc on pre reg were all over £40K originally so would fall into luxury tax 😕. We are well and truly in the 10-15 mile journeys as we are retired, thats why full electric was a credible option too.

If she likes the XC 40 but wants a more car type of style the Polestar 2 is worth a look.

There are some cracking lease deals on EVs right now. If your use pattern fits, and if you don't mind what car you have (advice is to chase the deal not the car) then you can get a Frontera for less than £200/m and a Renault 4 for around that too. Look at Leasing.com or Leaseloco. No depreciation, no large outlay. For some people the maths is very persuasive if you can get beyond the idea of not owning a car.

Yep, we have a Toyota Yaris Cross Hybrid...during last weeks holiday touristy stuff it managed a comfortable 61.1 mpg

Only affected pre 2021 cars. I know two people with them, both loved the car and one has just upgraded to a newer one. Plenty of 22/23 cars with sensible mileage available for sub £20k.

Tesla have some specials on at the moment.

£295 up front, £295/pm. 2 years, 8000 miles a year for a Model 3 PCH.

another mention for the Toyota Yaris Cross Hybrid (not plug in). My parents have one and it does do 60MPG plus. 10 year warranty and looks good too

I have a Tesla Model 3. The post 2024 revised version is significantly better than the earlier model. It was good value new, certainly better value, and IMHO, a better car, than an ID3, which was my previous car.

Don’t touch the Frontera!. We just rejected one - No end of issues.

I’ve had a few EV’s and PHEV and the only one that never failed me was the Tesla.

Having had my Hyundai Ioniq5 for three years and 60,000 miles, I can state they work and do what you need them to.

Its a full battery EV and has 240 mile range at 90% charge (now, in May). I found these used examples near Ipswich.
