Hi

Looking for some sage like wisdom from the collective knowledge on here....

Fitted one of these last year and was working fine until a couple of weeks ago

https://nippynormans.global.ssl.fastly.net/usercontent/img/col-6/91429.jpg

It’s the BMW to USB harness that fits into the spare plug under the beak on my 2009 R1200 GSA.

Can’t understand why its stopped working - obviously no fuses to check begin Canbus -

Can anyone shed any light or offer a solution to fix - only ever used to charge phone mounted on bars........

Thanks in advance!

I cant see the page details only an image but Id suggest you open the box and check the voltages in and out of the unit [ it may even have an onboard fuse]

Ok I’ll look at that thanks - would have thought that as it’s designed for mounting on a BMW bike though that wet/vibration might have been catered for...

It’s mounted away from heat too - upper right hand side inner beak.

Will look at opening it up, but I “think” it’s a sealed unit.....

Thanks for the suggestions.

Connect direct to a battery or 12V source off the bike

Then check your voltages at the usb end ( or plug in a known working usb device)

if it works there a wiring fault on the bike

if it dosent the unit or part of is at fault.

Whether its fixable is dependant on cost or accessability

Buy a new one from NN. Plug in to bike and phone. Works - return old one and ask for refund. Doesn't work - refund new one and fault find on bike wiring.

Might appear a less 'technical solution' but looks like minimum faff approach to me.

Check the USB cable that you have been using to charge the phone. If your’s is an iPhone that uses a lightning (8 pin) connector examine the small flat pins to see if the 4th one from the left (+’tive) is discoloured - if it is, it is corroded and might be recoverable with some contact cleaner - otherwise it is new cable time

There may be a similar issue with Android phones

Apples are not a ideal tools for testing USBs. Mine charges fine with it's own plug top charger and from the PC but wont even look at an iPad charger that uses the same Lightning connector.
