Electrical Interference

I've recently wired my bike to bike radio (works through Autocom but not powered from Autocom) up to the power on the bike, an R1200gs as I was fed up replacing batteries.

I'm now getting a background whine on any transmissions I make when the bike is running. I suspect that this interference is either the alternator or more likely the fuel pump. A friend has also recently gone over to bike power on his 12gs and has exactly the same problem, our (now smug) mate with a multistrada has no such problem.

Has anyone had any similar issues and if so how have you gone about supressing the problem?

Two of my mates are having similar problems bike powering Kenwood radios, one had a Sprint ST, the other has a VFR. - No such problems on my 1150:)

Anyway, one of the guys has just bought a gadget off ebay for a fiver delivered, some sort of inline supressor for the power cable which the seller thinks will solve this. It only came today, and he's hoping to fit it this weekend. If it works I'll post a link.

Needs "Isolated" Input Cable

Had same problem when my Garmin Quest was first connected to the Autocom
- It was powered via the bike and passed on electrical "noise" from bike to Autocom.
Autocom can supply an isolated input lead - can,t remember part number, but it's the red and black one I have.
Best idea is speak to Autocom and they'll supply exactly what's required for your set up:thumb2

As well as an isolated lead from Autocom, be sure to route any related cables well away from the ABS pump, ignition mini coils and alternator.

If the Autocom box itself is too close to the battery leads it will also pick up interference. Its also best to take the earth straight to the battery negative terminal rather than the bike frame.

I think you'll find the isolated leads from autocom are for the audio devices ie mp3, gps, pda's etc. Not sure you'll get one from them for a bike to bike radio.

Thanks Guys, I'll follow up with Autocom...after I've moved my unit which sits pretty close to the battery...it never caused any problems when the radios were on battery..but stranger things....
