Electrical Issues When Wet

Hi all

Having a strange problem with my 06' 1200GSA. After the bike has got wet or after washing.. if I start the bike up or go for a ride, when I come back and turn the bike off the HID headlights will flicker for a few minutes and the rear light remains on.

This will happen quite a few times until I guess, eventually whatever is wet has finally dried out. It happened the whole time I was away in France.. worried I could end up with a flat battery.

Any ideas, has this happened to anyone else?

check the wiring, particularly at the connections, if the connections are not well sealed (covered by plastic tape) water may be shorting them. Alternatively wires may be chaffed causing a short.

As has been mentioned many times on this site, don't clean your bike with a high pressure hase, apply water from the top.

I live in the tropics and ride in monsoon, and typhoon rain, never had problems.

Well...

Took my bike back to BMW Motorad as its still under warrenty, and although they have seen the problem for themselves, they cannot find whats causing the problem.. and they have told me that they have spend 4 hours on it so far, and that I could be liable for costs.

They have switched between standard BMW lights and the problem still occurs, however, now they are blaming the HID lights that I purchased from Les, saying that they have damaged the bikes wiring, yet, they still cant find the problem.

No fault codes, or any other electric problems.. just the fact that the lights flicker and the rear lamp stays on with the ignition switched off and ONLY when the bike is wet, or has been wet.

Any ideas?
