Electrical problem - non GS but still R series

I locked my R850R up in my mates garage over crimbo when I went to South Africa and upon returning the weirdest thing has happened!

The bike starts fine if the handlebars are on full left lock or pointing straight ahead. Turn the bars to the right and pfft-pfft-dead.

Has anyone had this kind of trouble before and if so, which wire/s is/are the culprit/s?

Appreciate any help with this one.

I'm pretty sure I've read that the ignition lead (ie from the ignition lock) eventually fails. That'd probably produce symptoms similar to that....

Ignition lead problem, 30Minutes job to change and around 50£ to by. I fixed mine with a soldering iron once, lasted for a year and went again.
When installing new one, intelligent use of zip ties should make it last longer.
