Bugger.......
It's winter, so I thought I'd go through the bike, like you do. 2002 R1150R single spark, no ABS.
Service it, etc, and buy some farkles, just like most on here.
I know, I thought, Led dash lights, I need some of those......
LEDs ordered, and delivered.
I take out the bulbs, all seem to have blown, mmmm put ignition on, no speedo, Rev counter or clock bulb working, all idiot lights do though. At this point I should of had a look as to why, but didn't. They worked last time it was dark, I'm sure they did....
No problem I thought, I'll pop in the new led side light I have while I'm here, and then just because I'm impatient I'll turn on the ignition to have a look at it and revel in the ledness...
blast), then I'll put in the dash LEDs.
Ignition on, no lights from side light and smoke from behind the speedo!!!!!
Ignition off, panic, think I've set bike/house on fire as garage is attached........
So it appears after a sit down, lots of swearing, and easy job gone hard muttering, that the wire to the clock bulb has melted the insulation, I didn't have a bulb in it as I was changing it you see, but couldn't wait because I'm an idiot....
Pictures are of the bike as is now, the offending melted wire (pic 3), the really tight twist in the loom behind the headlight (pic 2)
Also as I've taken it all apart for access, I've found that the oil pressure bulb has insulating tape on the brown wire not going anywhere, so it appears some other fuckwit has been here before... (Pic 1)
I'll go though it, just wanted to know if anyone had any ideas or if it you've come across this or anything similar. I know LEDs can have a different polarity, is this a possibility?
I'm going off to sulk now.....

also the last ride was with my 12 daughter as pillion, so no, wouldn't want it combusting whilst in motion!
