I posted a couple of weeks back that my son and I stopped a break in to our garage, while they were trying to nick my GS but they had already had it away with the XCountry, which we recovered later with damaged ignition switch and missing clocks.

I have replaced the clocks, they turned up in a neighbours garden, and have for now I have put a simple switch in place of the normal ignition. I have a fully charged battery and checked all the fuses, but it will not start or show any sign of electrical life.

I am stumped.

There is power through my new ignition switch, and at the rear fuse box under the seat, but not at the two fuses under the right hand side of the dummy fuel tank.

So first question, is there a fuse box other than those two mentioned that I am missing?

If not has anyone any ideas on where to look next for a fault. I have followed the wiring by eye and cannot see any obvious problems. I don't have a wiring diagram and have assumed that the two wires that used to go through the ignition switch are normally connected to each other by turning the key and that only those two wires enter the ignition switch. Is that correct?

Additional information. When I connected the clocks to the multi pin socket, the clocks went through a normal looking self check sequence with the ignition off. At the end of that sequence they switch off and show no sign of life with the ignition on or off.

Check all the pins in the multi connector are making. I have heard of just one pin becoming loose and prevent the bike from running.
Ferret may be able to help as i think he had the issue on his XC.

Timolgra,
No I am not sure anything is right. On good warm day in good light I can handle basic electrics with a wiring diagram but in the dim cold flying blind, whop knows.

I know the new switch is working because it glows when switched on, but I am just guessing that I am trying to connect the two correct wires based on what was left dangling after the theft. I am pretty confident that this is something glaringly simple but finding it is not easy.

Timpo,
Yes I am suspicious of the clock connection, but it looks ok and I now have a spare set of clocks ( Bought them before the original ones turned up :blast )and have tried both sets off and on a few times.

Why don't you try a proper xc ignition switch?
Johnny,
As my wife is hardly likely to use the bike until it warms up a bit, I am deferring spending any more until I have to. The spare set of clocks have cost me best part of £300 by the time I paid shipping and duty. I am working on the principal the electrons don't know if it is a Halfords or Bmw switch.

Problem solved - All working now. Thanks for the advice. The problem was with my temporary ignition switch and not the bike.
