Electrics on the blink

Yes, I knew about if it was in gear - have that problem if I stall the bike ! But never knew about the diode- presumably it prevents current flow in one direction, and therefore isolates something to prevent starting ? Then guess it gets by-passed when clutch is pulled in.
I always start bike with clutch pulled in , as it takes the gearbox load off the starter motor - turns over a bit better in cold weather.

Time to own up - but not as embarassing as some of the suggestions.... I'll be admitting to them in the future no doubt.

It's all back together now, and running sweetly, but all I can remember is that I got a blue wire and a black wire crossed (the blue wire should go from the diode board, I had black. Such a simple thing, with big consequences.

Ho hum
