Morning peeps. New pc - xp run. great fun. the videos of Llangollen are fantastic.

Problem - installed MS Works with Outlook as part of the deal. Fine. Along the way I must have pressed a button that says I wanted my email to merge with Outlook. I now realise that I do not. 1. I cannnot seem to get "Mailwasher" to work on the emails as they come in. & therefore 2. I am getting all that garbage spam again.

Question, how do I go about getting out of the merging of my emails into Outlook.

If its simple, all the better. If its something I should know, apologies for bothering you.
TIA
Chuck

Chuck,

You could try the following:

In Outlook, click on TOOLS/ACCOUNTS then select the email account and click on PROPERTIES

Now, uncheck the box "Include this account when receiving mail"

That will stop Outlook collecting email for that account. What do you normally use to collect email (that Mailwasher works with)?

Go to control panel, Internet options, and then select the Programs tab, you should be able to select which program you want to receive your emails. either Outlook or Outlook Express if using Microsoft.
Go back to control panel and select 'Start up/taskbar' and somewhere in there you'll also be able to choose which Email program you want again.
You didn't press a wrong button, whenever you install 'Works' or 'Office' it defaults your email to Outlook.

You may also have to go back into mailwasher and do the same there.
Hopes this helps as I'm saying it from memory due to trialling Vista for 2 or 3 weeks.

On the subject of spam I wonder if it's a cyclical thing I was virtually spam free for a month or so which I put down to Mailwasher bouncing, but the last week or so Mailwasher is catching batch after batch and a lot of it is repeat stuff.

Is it any good? and would I be able to use Mailwasher with it, Vista comes prepacked with 'Window Mail' wich is a crossbred of Outlook & outlook express and not as good as either one of them.

I find it quite user friendly. Don't know about Mailwasher as (so far) I'm only using it for an account the spammers haven't found yet  so haven't felt the need.

Get the beta of Orifice 2007, got Outlook included, but have a large hard disk handy and do not save any documents in Orifice 2007 format if you want to be able to opne them with older version of Orifice.

Thunderbird works with Mailwasher, as does Outlook, but you need to disable automatic send/receive in Outlook to allow Mailwasher time to sort the shite out first. Disable scheduled send/receive is in the tools menu.

I shall give Thunderbird a go, but Outlook is over endowed for a plain home use, Windows mail is a backwards step it just isn't pleasing to the eye.

Many thanks.
Iain I use Outlook Express - has worked for me in the past, and with mailwasher have managed to shortcut the rubbish.
Cheers
