emc/cotton

right chaps,
here is an opportunity for some slaggin obviously, but i hope also some useful advice.
this is an early 70's emc.cotton frame,sachs engine(not shown )

it belongs to my bro in law.has not turned a wheel in decades.

i offered to see if i could get it going again for him.alas when it arrived the box of engine bits contained no barrel you can see the problem.

so what we thought of trying to do was get a period japenese scrambler engine
and shove it in there.

i eagerly await any replies helpful or otherwise(hopefully the former)

Think i have an old 250cc Honda motor sitting around some place, i will look when next i go to the workshop.

As the chain drive is on the offside you would be better with a european engine, an aircooled KTM or perhaps a Rotax out of a ex Army Can Am Bombadier which would probably fit quite easily.
Also why not get a copy of trails and Motocross News you might pick up a Sachs engine (Ellastone Off Road in Staffs might be able to help)

I'll take my camera when i go up to Pats pad as it is hidden away with my other bikes. Loads of old dirt bikes mostly in bits as my mate who left them to me was keeping them for when he retired ( poor sod never made it ) but he left the lot to me. I am at the moment doing up an R90s spent all day cleaning the crap out of the carbs ( last used 17 year ago )
I'll let you no what it's like and get a pic as you will most likely no what model better than me.

It might be worth while taking a scoot up to Norman Watt's at the temple (Turn Left at the crossroads btw Carryduff and Saintfield). If you've ever been in his office (how he finds stuff I don't know ) He might even have an original brochure He has an impressive old dirtbike graveyard in the field/Garden beside the shop. You might find what your after
