Hi Guys,
just wondering how to get my 650GS ready to be started with pliers, in the unfortunate case the battery runs out.
Is there some way to install the original/aftermarket socket and plug some adapted pliers into it?
Do not like too much the idea of having to take the three panels off to get to the battery... :P

To get at the battery you only need to undo the six bolts holding the centre panel. There is sufficient flexibility in the soft plastic side panels to simply spring the tabs out of the centre panel, with a gentle bit of wiggling. You don't even need to take off the oil-tank cap.

While it's out I tape the small half-moon shaped rubber 'gasket' at the front of the middle panel in place to make it easier to refit.

Reassembly is similar, just flexing the side panels a little to get the tabs into the slots. It's a very quick job to carry out especially if you have a screwdriver with a selection of 'torx' bits rather than the awful "L" shaped tool in the tool-roll.
 
Is it not similar to my Dakar? which has a posative terminal under the ront end of the seat. Gounding the negative onto an engine mount is usually sufficient to jump start or even charge the battery without the need to remove any panels.

Yea a newbie to BMW's, just took delivery of one of the ex off-road school bikes. Using it for a winter bike and planning a few long trips. Pleased with it so far, done a bit of off roading but mainly been adding bits like center stand, braded brake lines, Scott Oiler and extra mudguards to keep some of the road dirt at bay. The performance is better than I expected as long as I keep away from motorways.

Just moving to Lemington Spa for a few months but will be back in Abingdon area in April. Love to do a few rides especially on some of the less rutted green lanes in the area.
