I'm getting my 1300 GS on the 31st. It is an already built / already in the county bike & is coming with the standard end can. I'd like something a bit better looking, with a bit more of a burble without paying as much as getting BMW Akrapovic.
Has anyone swapped their standard can?

Re: Germany, just make sure the end can has a certificate of conformity..and take it with you.
I had Arrow on the 1250 and kept the conformity cert in a plastic cover under the seat, just in case. Obviously if you remove the (not very well) fixed baffle, it will not comply. Carry the baffle and pliers if concerned.

Does this apply to the BMW supplied Akro too? I never got a CoC for it.

I went for the Akra end can on my 1300GSA but after a ride out with a friend also on a 1300GSA there wasn’t any real sound difference.

Had the Akra on my previous 1250GSA with the baffles removed and this made a noticeable difference. Checked today and there doesn't appear to be baffles in the new one.

I was told that I would need to replace the entire system with the Akra decat, think this is a further £1200 though! Have seen other makes online cheaper but not sure if these would throw up faults.

@Smartbazza and @Baked Bean what’s the sound of the HP Corse like in comparison with the standard can please?
Nice deeper tone. Re the comments on Akra etc not being any noisier if you get A healtach flap eliminator it keeps the exhaust flap open so it’s a bit deeper all the time and will pop a bit on the overrun.

I saw articles covering a campaign this year by German roadside Police checks, zero tolerance to loud pipes with non-compliant bikes impounded.

It’s a long walk home.

I would imagine that being a BMW supplied part it will have a CoC
You would think so, but I don’t have one. It sounds different but wouldn’t say it’s noisy. Would they stop me for it? Was intending to do Black Forest this year at some point.

Most of the silencing is done in the cat and the box underneath the engine so changing the end can won't now make a big difference.

I agree with Banksy. In the interest of science I ran mine with no end can a while ago, and it was still nearly as quiet.
Sounds slightly better with the exhaust valve disconnected, but still too quiet if you’re a fan of engine “character”.
The collectors were replaced over winter with some Arrow straight-through items and the bike now sounds great in the garage, bordering on noisy, using the BM end can. Sadly I can’t comment on how it sounds on the open road, due to a some recent misfortune aboard a snowboard. When things have healed I suspect I’ll either be reporting that it sounds epic, or asking the unusual question of whether there is a quieter end can out there!
